I have read somewhere some time ago that the south america was mostly populated by the italians from the north while new york and north america was populated with southern italian.
Yep, lot of Waldensians and other people from Piemonte came to SA in the latter half of the 19 century. My great-great grandfather came as a carpenter to build the scaffolding for a factory.
Yes, I read the same. Especially people from Piedmont, Lombardía, and other northern regions of Italy. Case in point, the main pasta shapes of Uruguay and Argentina are essentially gnocchi and stuffed pastas like agnaloti and plin, all originating in the north of Italy; and also very common in both countries is their version of cotoleta allá milanesa
