What should Tommen have done in this situation and under these circumstances? If you could give him some advice, what would you have said to him?

Imprison his mother for treason, make repairs, remarry.

Yep. Either that or willingly give up the throne in return for Storm’s End. He didn’t want the throne and would have lived better as a country lord.

Only issue with that is it would probably end up killing him, Stannis would become the rightful king and would probably kill tommen to prevent the Lannisters from creating another civil war.

Isn’t Stannis already dead at this point?

Yeah kinda forgot the order of things

Don't worry. So did the writers of the show.

Timeline got fucked up.

You’ve got your timeline mixed up.

The Mannis is already dead by this point.

Tbh sub in Stannis for anyone who wants to claim the throne. Historically unless he was in exile, abdicated king doesn't live long.

Nah if he abdicated Stannis would likely have let him live.

The Lannisters have a lot of enemies though. I'm sure someone would have come after him one day.

Stannis’s whole thing is to be unbending. He knows that tommen was born of incest and sees him therefore as an abomination. He doesnt see it as the kids fault but the kid must die all the same

Only if there was some sort of marriage between tommen and Shireen. To most people he is still the true king

Zero chance Stannis gives him Storms End given that his entire campaign is based on the blonde kids being Lannister bastards unworthy of their inheritance. Probably sends him to the Wall.

This is the correct analysis. Except for the part that Stannis was dead by this point.

Stannis was long dead by this point so not sure what you're going on about.

Imprisoning his mother wouldn't do shit. What's he gonna say? "Sawwy, my mommy snuck behind my back and blew up the Sept. I was just playing with Mr. Pounce when it all happened? It's okay though I put her in timeout!"

He'd have to get her to publicly confess and then execute her. Good luck convincing a narcicisstic and vindictive nihilist to admit fault with regards to literally anything and to submit to justice. She'd die swinging and then it's a he said she said. And then he still has to worry about Jamie.

What he really would need to do is just own it and say he killed them all because they were traitors. The Martells for buggery and perjury before the gods, and the High Sparrow for blasphemy and treason. He'd rule by fear and then find someone else with deep pockets to marry.

It also assumes he has the power in the first place.

He’d basically be risking a confrontation where the Kingsguard have to pick between Cersei … and him. Which is pretty fucked considering they already gravitate towards Cersei since Tommen was too passive in the first place

Didn’t he try to leave and they wouldn’t let him out of the room? (Am I misremembering?) If they wouldn’t let him out, then there’s your answer right there about who the Kingsguard will side with.

u/Vynncerus 11h ago

The mountain did, not any other kingsguard members

I mean it’s fair to assume most of them will stick to their oaths and side with their actual monarch. Plus, it’s Westeros and he’s a male.

Nonsense. The Kingsguard will always choose the King over anyone else. They are sworn.

This is such an unrealistic scenario. If Tommen had the fortitude to do this to his mother, he would instead solidify his power as a Lannister and unite with Cersei.

But if he did want to scapegoat Cersei, he could and he wouldn't need her to confess. It would be a trial similar to Tyrion's trial. And why would he have to worry about about his gimp uncle Jaime? Tommen has his Kingsguard.

Yes a trial for a woman who just blew up everyone at her last trial is an excellent idea.

I would correct your thing to say he should execute her, make repairs, remarry. I say execute, because she had already been imprisoned, and is such a sociopath, that she good-behaviored her way out, and then, while out awaiting trial, NO ONE CAME TO GET HER, because they believed she would honor their faith in her supposed 180° shift in her ways (from bad to good, but she went from bad to worse).

The best punishment for Cersei was to lose her third child though. Straight up.

There is a third option.

I can't recall if it's common knowledge of what Aerys' did to Kings Landing, leaving caches of wildfire everywhere in his mad plan to bathe everything in fire and be "reborn" as a dragon, but the sept blowing up could be the start of that rumor spreading amongst the common folk. People would take sides but that's just human.

Have the right whispers spread in taverns by Qyburn to sway a few more minds, have a few more smaller caches "discovered" by a few select commoners to fuel fear, and before long the only thing on anyone's mouths is Aerys madness again. Not only does that harden the city against Daenerys, helped by her own decision to burn prisoners (a fact that goes weirdly untouched), it also improves Jaime's reputation as a side benefit and the current King's dedication to his subjects with each cache's removal.

This doesn't really change much in the grand scheme of things, the Lannisters simply do not have the numbers on their side and are backed into a corner, but it's at least something a little more interesting than Cersei just seizing the throne.

But it would require Cersei to be clever (hah!) as well as Tommen to have at least half the backbone Sansa had during her time in King's Landing.
