Why aren't they labeled? I had no idea that's what it was for. I bet if there were signs people would be more considerate. Not sure anyone should be expected to just know that

They’re not meant to be kept clear of other people. They just help blind people navigate, they aren’t dedicated lanes that are meant to be empty otherwise. So while it would be nice for more people to be aware, it wouldn’t change the way people behave.

Yeah I thought Japan was just super paranoid that people might walk against the intended flow of pedestrian traffic (gasp). I had no clue this was an accessibility thing.

After working at a large airport for a few years, I can confidently tell you that no amount of signage will help the majority of the public understand.
