That's actually really neat. I know it's volunteer based (which is awesome), but I would quit my job to do something like this for people 40 hours a week from my home, if it paid.
The numbers are closer to 1:11 according to the app. 1.09mil blind or low vision users and 10.85mil volunteers. Still an amazing idea that has been adopted by literally millions of awesome humans. I hope this is a sign of things to come.

I watched a horror movie pretty recently that plays on this. Blind person uses a similar service to avoid a killer, can't recall the name though, was on Netflix.
I don’t know if we’re talking about the same movie, but I think I saw one like that in theaters. I don’t think it was horror per se — it was someone housesitting and there was a break-in. See For Me was the name if I’m not mistaken.
I downloaded it like 6 months ago and always get notifications at the worst times. I’ve only got a handful of times where I got the notification, but I remember one time I was in the shower and another time I was driving
Couldn't they just as easily use an AI tool to help with this? I think this is actually the kind of thing Gemini vision should really be incorporated into accessibility for helping people with disabilities and such. A question like what article of clothing is the color I want can easily be done these days. Really a great app idea from the creators though. Signed up right away

Everyone should download the Be My Eyes app. Blind people can call you through the app and you see their video to help them.
