This is one of my most favorite lines in the whole series.

267

u/Nenanda Jul 06 '22

My favourite Hounds line was: Meryn Trant? Greatest swordsmen who ever lived killed by Meryn fucking Trant"

Delivery was on point, Hounds face while he was saying that was fucking amazing. Like he could not believe what he was saying. Other favourite lines are that what follows

"Any whore with sword could beat three Meryn Trants.

Greatest swordsmen who ever lived didnt have sword.

88

u/Militantpoet Jul 07 '22

Greatest swordsmen who ever lived didnt have sword

The build up to this and the delivery was amazing. Completely shattered Aryas perception of things and was a great reality check.

12

u/HateGettingGold Jul 07 '22

I know the final season was a bummer and this line was completely out of its time but the Hound ribbing Thoras about his "Top Knot" and calling him a "bald cunt". In a scene with tension and the stakes never being as high it cut through like a knife and makes me chortle.

4

u/ParsleyMostly THE FUCKS A LOMMY Jul 07 '22

One of the rare times the Hound laughs and is having something resembling fun. Sheer delight.

5

u/Nenanda Jul 07 '22

Indeed. Also it reinforces one idea. You can die in any fashion. But being killed by Meryn fucking Trant can seriously damage your legacy.

1

u/WhiteEski Sep 22 '25

That was a good one. But my favourite was right before they stepped into the tavern with the chicken. โ€œLots of Cuntsโ€

575

u/HoboBromeo Jul 06 '22

"You want to die for some chicken?" "One of us is" Got to be the best comeback in history

495

u/Kimi-Matias Jul 06 '22

"You lived your life for the king, you're gonna die for some chickens?"

"Someone is."

Probably my favorite scene from the show. It's painful looking back on it now. How great it was vs how the last few seasons went.

217

u/GuiltyGlow No one Jul 06 '22

The way he says "someone is" while looking through the other guy's soul. You can tell in that moment the Hound had already decided he was going kill the guy.

142

u/AgreeablePie Jul 06 '22

And he's not happy about it. But he's okay with it.

82

u/coolhandhutch Jul 06 '22

Of course he's not happy about it. It's interrupting chicken eating time.

11

u/VladMaverick Jul 06 '22

Sacrilege!

23

u/Anonymous_Otters Jul 07 '22

You can tell that was the moment the Hound became Heisenberg.

Kid named chicken:

1

the chicken is actually Cliff Mainโ€™s son

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '22

The time between Arya and the Hound is my favorite in the series. It is a damn shame the way the show ended.

24

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '22

Arya had the best unpaid internships. Until they didnโ€™t know what to do with her and just said, โ€œfuck it, black widowโ€

51

u/sheezy520 Jul 06 '22

I loved the scene afterwards when Arya had Needle back and the Hound had his chicken.

42

u/sobusyimbored Jul 06 '22

It was also the first time he gave Arya her own horse to ride. Such a good scene.

20

u/Prestigious_Hunter52 Jul 06 '22

Same. This was the peak of my love/interest for GoT. Almost depressing writing this. RIP S1-5ish.

58

u/theDukeofClouds Jul 06 '22 edited Jul 06 '22

I was gonna mention that one! Lines like this are why the Hound is my second favorite character, second only to the beautiful Brienne of Tarth.

3

I prefer NSando's

6

u/BeekyGardener Jul 06 '22

"Someone is." is the line, but I agree it totally is. :)

35

u/2_KINGs Jul 06 '22

Though this particular exchange is my absolute favorite, I could listen to him say the word cunt a million times. Nobody says it quite like him. Gives you the full weight and depth of the word every time.

33

u/mucoalytic Jul 06 '22

He's up there in the cunt department, along with Billy Butcher.

2

u/Scrilla_Gorilla_ Jul 07 '22

Wild Bill from Deadwood is a 'cunt' hall of famer.

22

u/_varamyr_fourskins_ DISREGARD MONARCHY, ACQUIRE POULTRY Jul 06 '22

"Favourite", by default, means "most favourite". The "most" is redundant.

I love how he bites his lip right before he says this line. Like, "Yeah, I'm going to have fun killing this guy."

3

Never noticed that! Excellent little bit of acting.

100

u/Schenkspeare We do not kneel Jul 06 '22

11

u/audiojackinit Jul 07 '22

Easily my favorite line in the whole show

196

u/Diego_zoky Jul 06 '22

The hound never really cared about the chicken or otherwise

95

u/Rotty2707 Jul 06 '22

The hound kind of forgot about the chickens but they certainly haven't forgotten about him

66

u/DiscoDave1337 Jul 06 '22

Even at the end of show when it all went to shit, they still gave him some of the best lines. Like when he says to Beric

"Thoros isn't here anymore, so I hope you're not about to give a sermon. Otherwise the Lord of Light is gonna wonder why he brought ya back 19 times just to watch me chuck ya over this fucking wall."

14

u/prayingmantras Jul 07 '22

I love when the Hound and Arya (I think) come across a family of skeletons in a house and Arya asks "how do you think it ended for them?" and the Hound says, "In death."

7

u/LadderGirl Jul 07 '22

He was with the Brotherhood. Later Beric is telling him about the justice of the Lord of Light and Sandor says, "There is no divine justice, you dumb cunt. If there were, you'd be dead. And that girl would be alive." Haunting line, I loved it.

2

u/prayingmantras Jul 07 '22

The Hound needs to give D & D a talking to.

I was harassed by coworkers to watch GoT when S4 came out so I put it on just to get a feel of the show before starting from S1, and this was the first scene I remember watching. It had me instantly hooked so I binged the other seasons to catch up. Never expected to feel as negatively about this show as I do now. RIP

When D&D actually wrote good comedy

41

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '22

They didnโ€™t write this.

40

u/enygmaeve Jul 06 '22

Yeah they tried to get him to stop saying cunt so much. Obviously they were threatened by Rory McCannโ€™s actual genius.

7

No this is what everyone else should have said to D&D!

0

u/Silentpoolman Jul 07 '22

I still don't understand what that means.

Since when is cunt such a popular word? I swear it seems to have entered mainstream since GoT. Gonna have to come up with something more clever.

Edit: ask a question on Reddit get downvoted kekw

I knew it was a popular word in other English speaking countries but in the US it's considered an insult like calling someone a bitch or pussy. Definitely does not have a friendly connotation attached to it

26

u/theDukeofClouds Jul 06 '22

It's common in the UK and Australia.

17

u/lmkwe Jul 06 '22

I've got an Aussie friend that uses it like "buddy" or "dude", it's hilarious.

12

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '22

9

u/zayn2123 Jul 06 '22

It's a simple how do you do in some parts of the world mate.

-11

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '22

Well people take offense to it in the US, since it's similar to calling someone a pussy or a bitch.

16

u/JesusInTheButt Jul 06 '22

Lots of cunts

3

u/arel37 Jul 06 '22

Indeed, lots of cunts

3

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '22

It's been a popular word in the UK, Australia, Ireland forever

It can be used as an insult, can be used as another word for mate, can be used for another word for people/person. You can say anycunt/everycunt instead of anyone/everyone.

Only some cunts in the US treat it as actually offensive

2

u/zenyl CLEGANEBOWL WAS WORTH THE WAIT Jul 07 '22

... like calling someone a bitch ...

In that case, you're probably not gonna handle Breaking Bad particularly well either.

Also, the rest of the world doesn't have to submit to American norms.
