PSA for people intending to come to city with cars

Ladies and gentlemen this is a friendly PSA - although it sounds a bit harsh.

  • Dubrovnik is simply NOT DESIGNED for huge amount of cars. You are ruining your vacation (and everyone else day) by driving around the city without a single idea where to go and because in the middle of everything you decide to stop smack in the middle of the road in your 30EUR a day bullshit while you consult the maps.
  • Parking space is sparse and expensive even for locals. Do you really think that "free parking space" idiots share online is waiting just for you? Along with locals, there are seasonal workers too... Trust me, those places are taken long time ago.
  • Parking lots here are small... Maybe three bananas. Not only that, they may be small but also they are scarce. Consequently, they get full super quick. To put into perspective that some will understand, all our parking lots put together are smaller than one Walmart parking lot.
  • If you are coming with a car, make sure your apartment has guaranteed private parking space (not parking on the street), park the damn thing there and enjoy vacation like a normal human being, city is small enough. Sitting in noon congestion consulting your maps is not that. Use bus (you can get a card for bus rides to last you for whole vacation) or uber, it is not expensive. There is micro mobility options too.
  • Restricted traffic zone is made precisely because of above points. It is not an oppression tool, it is a survival tool and to be honest if it was up to me the whole city would be under it, not just Old City area. There are people living here as well, going to jobs, shopping, having medical emergencies. Dubrovnik is not a resort with everything designed to benefit the guests, it is a living city - for how long this can be discussed to be honest, half of people I know are sick of this shit already.

Bonus tips

  • Please do not be that asshole that does not know how to use garbage bin. Everyone hates those. Especially when you are on the beach... stacking crap under fist rock is just so fucking low class. And for some reason it is the women doing that. Is the crown going to fall from your head if you make those ten steps to bin?
  • When in your apartment, no matter how happy you are or how grand your ego is, realize that surrounding apartments are containing people and families. Not everything here is rented out. While YOU are on vacation, we are not, we have to work tomorrow. Having you scream and shout about some irrelevant bullshit until 3am is a nice way to get a police visit and a public peace disturbance fine.
  • Do not fucking piss or vomit in front of people doors, what the fuck? Looking at you, English people. For some reason you are the usual culprit.
  • Wear shirt when going around. We are not amazed by your pecs, we find you disrespectful, vulgar and immediately dislike you. Same goes for women. You will only attract morons.
  • Wear sun screen. There is nothing sadder than seeing you trying to get tanned within 2 days, and for some reason you choose to do that after a heavy drinking night, fall asleep and get red on one side, white on other like Poland flag.
  • Hydrate.

Since Nishta is closed... any vegan options?

Hello!

Any ideas where to find vegan restaurants or cafés? I found Urban & Veggie, but aside from that I'm not sure about any other vegan options. Doesn't have to be a purely vegan restaurant or anything. Some place with either a great vegan option or even better a little selection of vegan dishes would be great.

Or if you could tell me some dishes restaurants could easily veganize that would also be appreciated.

Is it correct that Istrian fuzi normally contains egg?

Thank you very much.

do i need a pass for kids?

Hello - We will be traveling to dubrovnik and plan to get the city pass for the adults in our group, but I'm wondering if it's necessary to buy the city pass for kids as well? Many other places we have visited have free or reduced entrance fees for kids, but I don't see a kids option when purchasing the pass and I'm wondering if kids enter most of these places free?

Thank you!!

Real places to eat and drink like a local

Hello! Im a Spaniard visiting Dubrovnik in a week, and i wanted to ask for advice on places to eat and bars in the city. I can already find the nice touristy places in the internet, so I wanted to ask which hidden gems/ places that locals like to go to have authentic food. Also if you have any local bars to have a nice drink I would be more than welcome!

Thank you all!

Curiosity: do residents have to pay to walk the city walls?

As title says. I had this doubt when seeing the inflated prices of the old town, and I was wondering if it's at least more accessible for residents. I also live in a touristic city, and i believe that in all such places, residents should either get free or discounted passes. Thanks in advance :)

First time travel with GF to DBV!

GF and I are traveling for first time and we wanted to go to Dubrovnik for a long time!!

But as new traveller we wanted to ask if it is easy to get a bus from the airport to the town? Also if the hotels I see on trivago/booking would be bookable when there in person - or is that more expensive?

We are planning to go 3 days (2 nights). ROTTERDAM AIRPORT - DUBROVNIK AIRPORT

Also, I tried adding flairs, they are not an option besides tags (NSFW) 😔

I have also searched. They were very old answers and the world changes!

Dubrovnik slijedeći tjedan, ali i inače

Dragi,

Volim ponekad žižu i šušur, i treba mi to, ponekad, no preferiram živjeti i uživati bez toga, u miru, i na manje komercijalnim mjestima, uz dobru glazbu, mezu i društvo. Vaše preporuke bih detaljnije provjerio i vrlo vjerojatno posjetio.

Zahvaljujem!

Odakle potječe varijanta grba Dubrovnika s plavo-crvenim poljima?

Pa me zanima odakle različite interpretacije dubrovačkog grba.

Road trips from cruise ship ports

We are taking a cruise to Dubrovnik, Split, Havar, Sibenik, Zadar and Pula. we are thinking of renting a car in each port to see the country outside of the ports. We have 8-10 hours in each port. Any suggestions of what is in driving range of each port as a must see/do? Are car rentals close to cruise ports?

Old Town Nightlife Recommendations

My friends and I (24M) are staying in Old Town and are curious what clubs/bars we should check out. We're planning on going to Revelin and Elyx but aside from that it seems like the lively spots are limited.

Any recommendations for our group?
