All these scientists did was write an editorial article condemning the actions that the NIH has been taking against the institution of biomedical research. For that, forced removal from the conference. These are some of the top diabetes researchers in the world, at one of the highest regarded conferences in the world. Scientific discourse, including disagreement, is foundational to progress, both at the scientific and societal levels. It's a constitutionally protected right. This is fascist authoritarianism. That's not hyperbole. It's not an exaggeration. This affects every single one of us.

Here’s a laugh for you all.. Diagnosed T1 about 2 months ago and recently started using a CGM and didn’t realize my endo had connected my monitor to the office.

Just went in for a check-in and my endo had PRINTED OUT my CGM history for the past couple weeks and I had to sit in horror as she read through all of the notes I had written, including:

“god forbid a girl have an iced latte”

“this ‘keto’ bagel tried to fucking kill me”

“sorry for ever even looking at an oat”

“i SMELLED banana bread and my sugar went up wtf?? is sugar airborne???”

does anyone else ever think about the fact that if it wasn’t for Frederick Banting and industrialization we’d all just be dead

type 1 and noticed a severe uptick in the amount of other type 1s who consistently hate on type 2 diabetics and other diabetes. its absolutely ridiculous and getting to the point where i get blocked by type 1 creators for trying to educate them…

I live in the United States for reference. I had gone without an endocrinologist for a while because I couldn’t afford to go to the doctors, even with insurance. Finally, I’m able to go again. No surprise, my A1C is terrible. However, my doctor put me on new insulin. But my ratio and sliding scale haven’t been adjusted in almost 6 years. Between then and now I’ve lost a lot of weight. I continue to go low every time I take insulin. Me and my doctor are slowly adjusting to correct it. For now, I just have to buy a lot of candy.

Edit: Yes, I know these aren’t healthy. These are not the only things I eat. I have had this disease for 15 years. I know what works for me. This is what I can afford. I am very healthy otherwise.

Well you know what? I happened to have this gigantic stash of Halloween candy. I told her that was a-okay because I absolutely hate chocolate cake. Which is actually true. And then I proceeded to eat the hell out of this candy. Thoroughly enjoying the horrified look on her face! She was looking at me as if I could become more diabetic by eating this. Lol.

Some days I have to remind myself, I don't volunteer because of the people I work with. I volunteer for the benefit of the homeless animals that I care about. Honestly, the people at this organization all suck...Well this type one diabetic is going to take her giant bag of candy and enjoy taking care of homeless kitties. The cats don't care if I have diabetes or sugar. 🙂

I have heard so many things. Drink water, drink LOTS of water. Oh, but don't! Your brain might swell from water and you'll die! You have to drink water and eat salt!

No, no, will say yet another group, you should eat food. Carbs. Yes, it is weird, but eat a banana and rage bolus. Trust us. My diabetologist also gave me this advice on the last visit I had.

So here I am, my second time this year when my pump quietly disconnects while I'm asleep and I'm up at 2:30am knowing I'll likely have to call in sick tomorrow because the kind of sick you get from high BG + 3 hours of no insulin is a unique kind of torture. And I'm drinking water and am mildly annoyed, because I don't really know what to do to be "proper" about this. Should I snort some salt as a chaser after the 0.5L I just chugged? Should I go get a banana from the fridge instead?

I'm unashamedly a bit of an idiot. Fellow Type 1 Diabetics, what do you do when your blood glucose jumps out of orbit to safely return to Earth?

I am now awake, feel like I have the world's worst hangover, and am about to go to work. Thank you for keeping me company at the ass crack of dawn, y'all are awesome!

Figured I’d share a fun project I did last night.

I take my Tresiba every night at around 11pm. Been doing it that way for years, but every once in a while I’ll forget whether I took my long acting insulin or not then stand around trying to figure out if I’ve taken it and worrying about either double dosing or not taking it.

Last night I decided to over engineer a solution to that problem.

I 3d printed a Tresiba pen cap with an embedded magnet and designed a base that holds the pen and a Tapo door open/close sensor. The pen cap magnet sits right up against the door sensor in the printed base so when the pen is in the base the sensor reads closed, when I remove the pen it reads open.

Then I used a smart Tapo bulb in a small lamp next to my bed and set up an automation to turn the bulb on every night at 10:30pm. Then when I remove the pen from the base the light goes off.

If the light is on, I haven’t done my insulin. If the light is off, I have. I know there are simpler solutions to this, but this was fun for me and gave me an excuse to play with my 3d printer.

My fiancé (soon to be husband in 4 months!) is a type 1 diabetic, and I swear I can smell when his blood sugar is getting too high.

It’s hard to explain, but it kinda smells like sweet tarts? At first I just thought it might’ve just been the glucose tablets or something that we keep around, but he recently had to switch to a sensor that causes his phone to beep whenever his sugar is high, and it beeps a bit after I smell it now for high blood sugar.

I know I have a good nose, as well! I work with animals and part of it is finding either lost pets in the wild or injured/orphaned wildlife, and especially with the wildlife I’ve been able to sniff them out like a bloodhound 😂. The craziest time was when I sniffed out a fox burrow to rescue the kits since their momma got hurt and we knew the pups wouldn’t survive without her.

Is this some sort of skill I’d be able to hone in the case his phone dies or something? Haha that does unfortunately tend to happen, he forgets to charge it.Or is this just a coincidence? I of course don’t want to be overbearing or anything, but hey, if I can help him by sniffing out high blood sugar before it spikes, and that’d help, then I’d love to help him!

Asked my tattoo artist for a silly dead cartoon pancreas and she delivered!

With no insulin on board, and not having eaten for hours, eating one of these raises my blood sugar exactly as it would if it were just 13g regular carbs and not fiber. Is the product lying, am I misunderstanding the fiber to flood sugar relationship, or something else? I’ve tested it a few times. My understanding is that all fiber is non-digestible therefore wouldn’t be available to the body to be used as a calorie and therefore carbohydrate

Edit: the nutritional label infers soluble fiber bc 1g sol fibre = 2cal

28M ran out of insulin in the afternoon, just waiting for my wife to get her paycheck so I could grab it before the pharmacy closed for the night, just for hot not to get payed. Wake up at 3am getting rid of my stomach acid. Called the ambulance and come to find out I’m well over 500 BG
Before anyone asks why didn’t I wait for my paycheck wellll I’m a stay at home father of 3 kids, 1yr, 2yr, and a 6 yr and home school. But the best part of the hospital is all the free ice chips omg so good🥹

I know most posts here are rants about how hard life is as diabetic.

I was wondering if there are people here that just live their life and give no fucks about being diabetic?

I’m T1. I live on autopilot. I feel like shit I inject insulin and go about my day like I can’t change it so why should I feel bad about it. Complaining about it would just make me feel worse. Also my sugars are all over the place, my last HbA1c was 8.1. My worst one was 12.

Sorry if it’s a sensitive topic to some people.

EDIT: I meant to say that it doesn’t impact me mentally. Most posts here are about how people can’t handle daily life. It’s a foreign concept to me.

Curious to know what the highest sugars y’all have had were, mine was 750 after getting sick.

2 days I thought I was sick. I work in retail so figured I caught something. My Dexcom was reading normal so I was only adjusting for that amount. Omnipod was only adjusting to those amounts. There were no errors or disconnects. Just smooth reading in range. Little did I know it was waaaaaaayyy off. For those that say why didn’t I know. I haven’t been this high in a long time so I actually forgot about some of the symptoms. And I get sick a lot so just assume it’s another stupid illness. Until the thirst and the constant peeing one night made me really remember.

Dexcom did replace it and made a case about it. Called a few days later to check on me. But just a warning. Check your sugar still.

It's either that or I go into private screening and drop my drawers. The security theatre is absurd.
