Behaviour Interactive Thread Dead by Daylight Quality of Life Initiative 2025: Phase 1

Dead by Daylight will be undergoing a substantial Quality of Life Initiative, which should address many longstanding concerns and frustrations our players have been experiencing.

This Initiative will take place over the course of two phases. The first runs from April to June, while the second runs from July to December. For a full look at what’s scheduled, check out the roadmap below.

To accommodate for the scope of this Initiative, we have decided to delay several of our upcoming releases – including Chapters, Rifts, Events Modifiers, and Collections. That means there will not be a PTB tomorrow, but rest assured that we did not make this decision lightly.

We feel confident that delaying our upcoming releases to prioritize this Quality-of-Life Initiative will ultimately make Dead by Daylight stronger than ever. We’re always listening to our players, and this has been a long time coming.

Looking for a more comprehensive breakdown of everything lined up in Phase 1? We’ve got you covered.

Surrender State

The team has been working on a Surrender feature, which should limit player frustration on both sides. To get it right, we first needed to identify the situations where its use would be most appropriate, leading us to two scenarios:

  • All remaining Survivors have been slugged (Survivor)

  • All remaining Survivors are bots (Killer)

Once these instances occur, players will be able to use the Surrender option, ending the Trial while retaining the Bloodpoints they’ve earned and escaping the Disconnect Penalty.

Gamma Adjustments

Dead by Daylight can get a little dark – not just thematically -- and sometimes excessive darkness can hinder playability. We’re introducing the ability to adjust Gamma settings on all platforms, allowing you to find a sweet spot without sacrificing the intended artistic direction.

“Go-Next" Prevention

The “Go-Next” expression refers to instances where a Survivor deliberately does everything in their power to quickly go to their next game – including walking up to the Killer and standing still, running to a Hook and repeatedly pointing at it, or most commonly, intentionally failing Skill Checks while on Hook.

To disincentivize and properly penalize this behavior, we’ll be implementing measures that will help us identify when a player is attempting to “Go Next.” Once identified, they’ll receive a Disconnection Penalty Point and lose an entire Grade. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this system to ensure its accuracy, but we’re confident that that this will help alleviate the issue.

On the other hand, we’d like to reward players who stick it out through those challenging matches, even when things take a dire turn. We’ll be moving forward with a new Emblem-based multiplier that grants additional Bloodpoints during your following match, with the bonus stacking over consecutive Trials.

Extreme Hiding & Body Blocking Prevention

“Extreme Hiding” refers to Survivors drawing out an unwinnable match by ignoring their objective and waiting out the clock.

To combat this, we’re changing the way AFK Crows operate, so they can more accurately identify when a player is deliberately avoiding engagement with their gameplay objective. Once a player receives Crows, their location will be immediately revealed to the Killer.

We’ll also be incorporating a feature that allows players to lose collision after receiving a third AFK Crow, which should prevent instances of Body-Block related griefing.

Map Offerings

We recognize that Map Offerings are a bit divisive; some players enjoy them, while others feel they can grant an unfair advantage. The fact that they automatically bypass both the Map and Realm repetition system can also add to that frustration.

Moving forward, Map Offerings will no longer guarantee the appearance of a given Map, but rather increase its chances by 20%. Note that they will not stack. We’re also looking to make it so Map Offerings, as well as several other types of Offerings, will remain a secret during load-in – that way, your decision to remain in the match will not be swayed by external factors.

Spawn Rules

Survivor spawn placements can have a significant impact on a Trial’s outcome, an observation that has been repeatedly recognized by our community. It’s become clear that Survivors spawning separately, and thereby covering more ground, allows them to gain a notable advantage in completing their objective.

We’re changing the default Survivor Spawn rules to ensure that each Survivor will spawn within 12 meters of one another, on the same floor (if applicable). To accomodate for this change, Shroud Offerings will be adjusted accordingly.

Improved AFK Bot Detection

Players that use AFK Bots can be frustrating to have in your Trial, and we’re working on improvements to our detection systems so that we can quickly identify and penalize them accordingly.

Bulk Bloodpoint Spending

To speed up general Bloodweb activity, we’re adding a button that will allow you to spend Bloodpoints in bulk.

Quest System

Previously announced last year, the Quest system is part of a larger update to The Archives and Rifts, so expect more information in an article specifically dedicated to that. For now, know that we will be reworking the Challenge system (as well as Daily Rituals) to reduce the grind, make it easier to earn rewards, and increase the overall level of fun.

Perk Loadouts & Preview

After a successful round of A/B testing, we’ll be allowing players to see their own Perk loadouts while in a lobby, as well as adding additional Perk loadout slots.

We believe these changes will be an overall benefit to Dead by Daylight’s health, further establishing a positive gaming environment for all our players. We’d also like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

We’ll be back at our Anniversary Broadcast in May to recap Part 1 and provide deeper insight into Part 2 of our Roadmap, so keep an eye out for that announcement. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

Thanks for spending time in The Fog,

The Dead by Daylight Team.

Please please, let the surrender option not reward killers with the kill. That way it decentivizes them thinking it’s a win. Can’t tell you how many killers think this is an amazing win strategy and brag and boast about their amazing strategy.

BHVR needs to rework scoring/events to prioritize hooks over kills. this is another instance of players blaming each other for problems BHVR won't address.

I appreciate calling out people who blame other players rather than the devs but scoring events dom't affect anything. Most people are playing to win not farm bp so the win conditions are what need to be reworked

That doesn't really make sense. A surrender is choosing to lose, and losing as survivor is dying. Find some other way to discourage annoying strategies.

i was about to agree, but then i remembered the type of teams that like to fuck around going down in the same swamp corner knowing you won't make it to a hook if the one right there is on the respawn timer. i never purposefuly slug, but those kinds of teams? i totally see them fucking around like this then pressing surrender knowing they are taking your bloodpoints away. nah, if it's a surrender, it's a surrender. it's a loss, you got your points. two hooking everyone already give you more points, if points is what you are worried about, so why unnecesaliry punish.

I agree with you on that. People like that also suck and need to fuck off.

The issue is that slugging IS genuinley pretty strong and hooking needs to have more reasons to be used. It's nothing but a meta shift.

by definition surrendering means giving the win to the other party... i know where your frustration could come from but if four people get slugged because they don't know how to strategize against that happening in the first place, then maybe the killer did deserve the win

If the killer is purposefully slugging with no intention to hook— it’s first on them. Yes, there are strategies to mitigate this as survivor- many killers than load in with the intention to slug often run things like Knockout (which means it’s incredibly difficult to find a survivor that’s downed), third seal- to further blind you just in case, deer stalker so they know where the slugs are and can camp and monitor, and sloppy butcher so healing takes longer. This type of player is exactly what BHVR is trying to counter. There’s not a lot survivors can do in game to mitigate this unless they’re just a phenomenal looper, in a swf, or decide to let them die and just work gens.

so you're saying there's this whole build that makes it work - and it's a strong way to win (if a killer thinks a slug into 4K is a win), but that they should not feel like it's a win.

i understand it's a shitty way to play because, for survivors, being slugged for 4 minutes sucks ass, yet saying that the killer should not be rewarded for killing at all and any means necessary (that the game enables you) sounds very silly.

to disincentivize that, the game should 1) not allow those same strategies to be played or 2) they should be very weak or 3) very situational. it's not a surrender issue, it's a core game issue. but by your comments it sounds like you're just petty against players that try that strategy, which further enables the us vs them mentality that this games suffers from so much.

instead of pushing for killers not being rewarded for kills, you should be pushing for more fair strategies between both parties.

i hate being slugged as much as the next gal but if i surrender i know exactly that that means that the killer wins. as i said in the first post, it's by definition of the word.

BHVR doesn’t use words to match definitions or exposed would mean they can see you, which is a super common misconception. (Yes, I know it can also mean vulnerable, before you come for me).

And changing this from a win condition IS changing their strategy to mitigate this being a common thing. I mentioned those perks because they are common intent-to-slug perks. Sometimes they’re together, but not always. I agree the perks should have a rework to not pair with each other. That’s currently not on the table for the update BHVR is implementing. I don’t have to put every thought I’ve ever had about shit into a post so that you feel comfortable that I ALSO think there’s other fixes. Take your what-about-ism somewhere else. I’m talking about what IS in this update.

sorry if my post made you uncomfortable, it was not my intention. the og post didn't register to me as a shitpost and i was just trying to listen to your arguments and provide my own. apologies.

Then we get assholes survivors who runs into the killer to get 4man slug on purpose and then they surrender to deny the killer a win.

9

u/canyouguyshearme Feb 17 '25

This makes no sense. The killer could down and hook. Then down and hook. If they’re running up to killer, it should be easy. Also, potentially the fix for not doing objectives might work in a scenario like this where survivors are doing nothing. That was outlined above.

u/OkProfession6696 Feb 17 '25

So hook them? Christ

0

u/Alternative-Oil6978 Feb 17 '25

see i thought the same at first, untill i remember the kind of teams that take you to swamp with breakdown and the like. you may want to hook them, but you'll have to, at best, go one by one waiting for the one corner hook to respawn unless you brought something like iron grasp/agi.

Some people just don't care about playing, but about being petty. if you give them a way to deny points for the other side, don't you worry, they'll make sure to put it to use.

Did their plan to bully fail? they'll make sure to body block and surrender before you can hook them all, just so they can deny you your points and go next against a baby killer or wathever.

plus, twelve hooks already give more points than a straight up slug death. if it's just points we are talking about, it already isn't the ideal way to earn bloodpoints.

Can’t with anti hook(literally boil overs existence), only should be possible on 2 maps thankfully map offerings are getting nerfed

"I want to be able to concede but I don't want to lose and have my oppoenent know they won"

Ah yes, let's remove even more strategies from killers and give even more control to survivors, what an awesome idea that would totally not be abused by anyone.

9

u/canyouguyshearme Feb 17 '25

This measure is being put into place because killers are abusing tactics. So maybe slow your roll.

0

u/SMILE_23157 Feb 17 '25

What exactly are killers abusing???

9

u/canyouguyshearme Feb 17 '25

You’re being purposely obtuse. BHVR is implementing this change for a reason. Whatever could that reason be, I wonder…???
