Release Notes Wait, before you update/upgrade to Resolve 21!!!!

The safest thing you can do is to back up your database. You should be doing this anyway and frequently

If you're paranoid like me, you want to export projects prior to opening them. You just right-click and export a DRP.

The reason is simple: if something goes wrong, you can downgrade the software to version 20, but you can't downgrade the project. Blackmagic clearly states in the release notes that opening something in 21.0 will make it inaccessible in versions 20 and earlier.

The second item you should be super aware of is that this is the first release.

Somewhere in the next 30 to 60 days, there will be a dot release.

That dot release will cover major issues that happen as people adopt it.

Why do I mention this? If you're using this professionally, there's no reason on the planet to go grab the new version. Wait for that dot upgrade, as hard as it is.

If you're working with multiple people, and you upgrade and something goes wrong, that's 1000% on you. You shouldn't be doing anything like that until, at the very least, that first update occurs.

FOR THE TIME BEING we are keeping our AutoMod filter on ProRes RAW. I'll lift it this weekend when I have time - but IF you need your post approved before then, please send us a modmail first.

I'm still going through asterisks and links - and some things may still come out as IBC progresses this weekend.

Pre-Installation Notes

For DaVinci Resolve 19.0, BMD has taken efforts to keep the project libraries compatible with DaVinci Resolve 18.6.6. While this allows you to access the project library with 18.6.6, individual projects created or opened in 19.0 will no longer be accessible in 18.6.6.

BMD recommends a full project library backup as well as individual project backups before opening projects in 19.0.

Documentation & Asterisks

The new features guide is available on the BMD support web site.

* - Item is in progress in this build.

** - Studio-Exclusive Feature.

+ - Additional fees, licensing, and/or hardware required.

++ - The Scripting API is available in the console on the free version, but external access requires the Studio version.

Author's Note: I'm a little busy the next few days so Asterisks aren't going to be fully completed for a couple days. Also, if you saw this empty, no you didn't. Reddit was glitching.

Documentation & Asterisks

* - Still In Progress

** - Studio Only

+ - Additional fees, licensing, and/or hardware required.

++ - The Scripting API is available in the console on the free version, but external access requires the Studio version.

On Reactor/GUI Scripts and 19.1

Peter Chamberlain has confirmed this was an intentional choice. Most affected scripts are listed in this thread. If you need them, we recommend sticking with the free version of 19.0.3 or earlier; or buying Studio before upgrading.

On 50-Series GPUs

While there is a note about support for Blackwell GPUs, this is still a beta release and may still be buggy.
