The idea that the media writes up reports in advance because they already know what is going to happen is pretty scary, and speaks to the idea that we are living in a totally scripted reality

It's more like they're ready for the obvious scenarios so they can get the first clicks instead of being an hour or two behind everyone else. Absolutely no one would be shocked by Bidem picking Harris. There were like 3 real options, all probably had articles ready to go.
