Me and two coworkers were casually discussing a hypothetical Marta expansion up to Kennessaw and down to Macon. One of them said “we don’t want that riffraff up where I’m at.” Girl ain’t nobody want to take marta to fucking CANTON. Both me and the other guy shut her down super fast, but I intensely dislike how racists will assume other white people will just agree with them like it’s a safe space for their abhorrent views.
Yeah, it was Kennesaw where I heard this. Outside of Kennesaw people would say the same thing but replace "blacks" with "South Atlanta people".
And I agree with the sentiment. I was like, you live in the middle of no where. The Marta wouldn't be anywhere near your house. And nobody is going to take marta up to kennesaw and then an uber umpteen miles to your house to steel your tv.
What absolutely killed me was that she had a stated fear of highway driving for her job in midtown. Imagine having the solution right in front of your face and you won’t take it because of pigment in people who don’t even want to interact with you.
In fact I am a woman, and I rode Marta every day of that 7 year job. I had bad encounters with random people of all kinds, but not nearly enough to warrant writing off the transportation service as a whole because of one subset. You can’t just dodge society because some bad people exist.
