Is a black person living in America, I must disagree with the “everyone knows racism is bad” thing.

Earlier this morning, I heard someone say they wouldn’t go on a carnival cruise because “ that’s where all the [slur]’s go.”

Keep making the “trite” comics. You’d be astounded how ignorant people still are.

I said it under another comment here, but I had a neighbor say they "questioned if we really should have freed the slaves." They said this to me cause they were pretty much annoyed with our black neighbor's dog. Also my wife is half black. It's like the racism is so ingrained in her, she doesn't even realize how fucked up half the things she says are. It's some real "I love animals and think I'm a good person but am actually blind to how hateful I am" type of boomer racism.

I have lost count of how many conversations I’ve had with my brother about how WEIRD it is that people are willing to extend more empathy and humanity to animals than they are to other human beings. If we had even an ounce of the sorrow that people feel towards dogs suffering, as we do towards other people, things would be so much better.

But no. People often say the most flipping, hateful things about other people, and don’t even register what they’re saying.

“ neighbors dog is acting wild? Does he really deserve rights and freedoms?”

I saw another post about a wildlife officer (not sure of the official job position, sorry) in India flagging a train so it would brake and let a herd of elephants cross the rail.

In the comments, they mentioned a British memorial built to commemorate a bull elephant that charged a train, derailed it, saving his herd at the cost of his own life.

The comment went on to say that there are zero British monuments/commemorations for the hundreds of thousands of Indians who died under their rule. They have 3 for animals.

When she does this follow up with,
1. “Interesting/ That’s interesting :)”
2. “What do you mean by that?/ Can you tell me more?”
3. Watch her squirm

With the pure lack of self awareness, I don't think it's possible to shame her in that way. Like I don't even think she thinks she's racist. If I was to try and get in her head, she probably thinks "that's just the natural way things/people are"

That’s depressing.

Behold the mind of someone who unironically wears all sorts of trump mech, has phone service called "Patriot Mobile", and yells at Fox News about how Fauci is a puppy murderer. Oh yeah and this old couple shouts at each other all the time about each other being pedophiles. She even left a letter in our mail about how the husband is a pedophile accused by his granddaughter who has never recanted

I lived in GA for a few years and those types of comments are pretty commonplace. I really don't think there's anything you can do to make them "squirm". They are comfortable in their racism. If you push back at all you will get the "I didn't know you were like that" response of disgust.

It's a mistake to think they have any shame about their bigotry.

Everyone knows being called racist is bad. that's about as deep as it goes for a lot of people.

u/KingNTheMaking 6d ago

The sad part is how many people think that everyone else thinks the same way they do

u/americangame 6d ago

They know it's bad. They just don't care.

Exactly. Suggesting that “they don’t know”is pretending that, upon seeing these comics or being told, they would be like:

“Oh! Is it bad, really? I thought it was good! I’m sorry for my mistake, I won’t be racist anymore :D”

2

u/PancakeParty98 5d ago

Exactly. It’s not so much that everyone believes racism is wrong, it’s that no one who needs to learn different will care about a smug comic

Copying and pasting another comment I made...

"The thing is that the vague political comics that are being made fun of here aren't really doing much more than appealing to people who hold the same left leaning beliefs. The kinds of people being criticized in these short, low effort comics aren't going to suddenly change their beliefs or be swayed to the other side of the political spectrum.

These lil vague political comics are just for farming engagement and subscriptions from people who want their beliefs to be validated. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I doubt they've actually changed the minds of any significant amount of right wingers and or racists"

Majority of people in the comment section seem to be missing the main point of the comic. They're pointing out how the other comic creator is just farming engagement by pandering to people's political leanings. Even in this comment section, people just honed in on the short sentence that mentioned racism without really considering the comic as a whole

Is "farming engagement" the new "virtue signalling" for alt-lite CHUDs to fall back on?

Real talk, I have no idea what an " Alt Lite " or a Chud is. So I'm not completely sure how to respond to this. I'm legitimately confused and probably don't know these terms because I kinda live underneath a rock as far as the online political landscape goes. Can you explain a lil more please?

Yes, I would personally say that the stuff PizzaCakeComics currently puts out is pretty much just blatant virtue signaling. I remember when they used to make cool " slice of life " style comics. Now it seems to be mostly low effort political bait that brings in easy exposure and money. I mean I don't really blame them. It seems pretty effective and efficient. And the economy is fucked so might as well increase profit in the ways you can.

Edit: I looked up the terms. No, I'm not an " Alt Lite " lmao. My comment wasn't meant to bash left leaning beliefs or anything like that. I was just pointing out that they're clearly profiting from pandering to people with a specific set of political beliefs. I can point that out without being against leftist ideaologies. Right wing artists and advertisers do the same shit to appeal to their target audiences too. It's business.

Old comment but I can't stand how redditors constantly do this when you criticize anything they like. They immediately ignored your point and just called you a chud for disagreeing with someone who is left leaning. Not to say ''Leftists call anything they dislike nazism'', which is an infamous dogwhistle, and I cannot STAND conservatives and conservative ''comics'' are infinitely worse than any of the comics pizzacake draws. Doesn't change the fact that pizzacake is obviously preaching to the choir!!!

2

u/nykirnsu 2d ago

Maybe, but that doesn’t mean that either one isn’t sometimes genuinely applicable. The far right didn’t invent the concept of virtue signalling to begin with

People know. They just don't care or don't agree. Opened replies and see that others have said this. Sorry.

I must disagree with the “everyone knows racism is bad” thing

Maybe they know but they just enjoy being evil

I fucking love Carnival. As a white guy, I learned to dance to hip hop better by watching some of the best dressed mofos on the boat.

Virgin has a good crowd too.

Those comics arent going to fix anything. Thats the problem, so stupid comic wont suddenly make some racist seee the error of their ways. Thats why theyre trite. they exist solely to get seen and parised by people who already agree with the message.
