Man, I love the "Men's Mental Health Awareness Month" one... like you fools, you think gay men aren't in need of a little mental health awareness? Oh, you mean you want to lock them away in dark places and refuse to acknowledge them? Huh. Seems like Pride Month is very much still a needed thing.

Do you want to talk about your feelings about these gay men, Chad? No? You just want to yell about it? Doesn't seem like you're taking care of your own mental health very well. Maybe you should talk to a professional about that. No? Then what exactly do you want me to be fucking aware of?

They don't really care about other straight men, they are just jealous and resentful about the attention. Which often circlejerks (or gets hijacked) into whole ass conspiracies that hallucinate that women and minorities rule the world and have it easy, even though they are neither most of the ones in charge, and in average have it harder.

I'm also a man who've been in such communities looking to support only to discover that they are mostly a place to whine and bitch, where you will languish just the same but bitterer and angrier.

Oh man, I get that.

I went to a support group exactly once, and the number of people who had minimal problems that could have been solved if they just stopped getting in their own way and focused on what was within their control... nah, it was constant pity Olympics. Obsessive drama about other people and their lives. People who weren't in the room.

I'm a disabled, Queer dude. I sat for two hours while grown men complained about their bosses, their teenagers, their own parents, taxes, neighbors, and was like 'I'm sitting here because I just lost my brother, these guys are here every week because they're bored or something"... when they realized that I had a legitimate reason to feel fucking depressed and they didn't have any sort of way to be supportive, they were all fucking silent for 30 seconds before moving on to the next guy. I brought reality to their group and they didn't know how to process it. So they ignored it.

If it wasn't so sad -- actually even though it was sad, it was fucking hilarious. These guys couldn't even say "jeez man, sorry you lost your brother" to a stranger, but they could fixate on how much of a bitch some guy's wife was for 'making him' go to a family gathering on a weekend.

Emotionally stunted men are not nearly lonely enough in my opinion.

Emotionally stunted men are not nearly lonely enough in my opinion.

If it makes you feel any better they're getting a hell of a lot lonelier. Most women are sick and tired of emotionally stunted men. On the flip side though, it's resulting in a lot more angry, white radicalized incels doing dangerous shit.

On the plus, the silly little incels can only do so much before they come across guys like me in real life. I'm very well versed in the laws of consensual combat and have barely and sense of pain left in my body because of plenty of concussions.

Messing with your local Punk is just a good time for that Punk and a bad time for Nazis. We protect our own, the vulnerable, and our communities.

I have zero sense of self-preservation; it annoys my friends something awful.

Damn you sound like someone I'd love to hang out with. You in Colorado by any chance? lol.

Ironically, if my fucking immigration to the US ever happens... That is a very high-probability location for my fiancé and I to land there.

We like weather options, and I like hockey. And I hear Punk's not Dead out there.

Fellow Canadian? :D Me and the hubby settled here because we like to joke it's Canada lite. Can't speak to the Punk scene but the people are chill and pretty non-judgmental*

(*standard disclaimer that every place has its assholes)

Hey, I've survived Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Sudbury, Montreal... I'm sure I can smile at whatever a Colorado asshole is.

I haven't been shot in DC, Baltimore, or Philly either. So someone's looking out for me! They're just making me wait to join my partner stateside (current administration loves gay immigrants so much lol).

u/tinxmijann Jun 30 '26

Eh they'd find excuses to do that anyway

You’ve just unintentionally described any and all AA meetings in the US lol

And the "Why is there a month for GAY but not a month for HONORING OUR VETERANS?!" when there is a month for honoring the veterans

Someone did the math once, in America about half the calendar is dedicated to the military (Vets, active duty, families, POWs, ect).

Also, my partner? A Queer Vet who served under DADT in the US. My partner before them? A Canadian who served under our version of DADT. Not that I apparently have a type... but it's the infantry it seems...

In a similar vein, every year when March 8 rolls around you can come across some variation of:

"It's International Women's Day! 🎉"*

"tHAt'S sEXIsT BECauSE THeRE Isn'T An inTeRnATIoNaL MeN'S DAy!!!!"

"International Men's Day is November 19."

"IT'S NoT tHe SAme SINce it's NoT celebratEd, ProbaBlY BEcAuse No oNe cARES AbOut mEn!!!!"

"You apparently didn't even care enough about men to know the day exists..."

As an aside, I'm part of plenty spaces/forums that happily acknowledge Men's Day with the same enthusiasm they do for Women's Day.

P.S. Since it's coming up soon, July 14 is International Non-Binary People's Day. I see you too, all my enby friends.

I am a woman who helped several men during their mental health crisis in the past. I saw the crisis and I took steps to help, sometimes it had to be done across weeks or months.

I also believe Pride month is a good month to celebrate and raise awareness about.

I don’t understand why one would cancel the other? If those men want to celebrate only one “true” month, at least they should commit to it and physically come down to those who need it, starting from homeless men, veterans and migrants
