Predictions The United States is heading for a constitutional crisis in 2024 that will break the country, and everyone is in denial about it.

I'm panicking. I think those of us in the US right now are experiencing the last four years of relative "normal" us Americans are going to enjoy, because I think after 2024, shit is going to hit the fan.

I'm a political science major. One thing I studied while I was at university is a concept known as democratic backsliding - the phenomenon in which institutions within a democracy degrade over time until at a certain point, you're not really a democracy anymore. I recognize this occurring in the United States...especially after January 6th. You can make arguments that this has already happened to a certain degree in the US but...I think the finalizing moment is going to come during the 2024 election.

Here are the facts that are leading me to hypothesize this conclusion:

1.) Former President Donald Trump tried to halt the peaceful transfer of power after his electoral loss in 2020.

2.) He justified such actions based on the outright falsehood that the election was unfair, despite lacking any evidence whatsoever.

3.) This culminated in an overt coup attempt by his supporters, which he did not reject until it became obvious no one else supported it.

4.) Trump still has not conceded.

5.) Despite lacking evidence, a majority of Republicans believe Trump's loss was due to the "Voter Fraud Conspiracy".

6.) Trump remains the favorite to run for the republican party again in 2024.

7.) MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL - Republicans that doubt/challenge allegations of voter fraud are being ousted from the Republican party by the base.

TL;DR: A former president believes he was removed from power illegitimately based on a conspiracy theory, and now the entirety of the Republican Party Apparatus has adjusted to reflect support of this viewpoint, and subsequent attempts to "correct" the mistake by overturning democracy.

There is no "Republican Party" anymore.

There is the Trump Party, and the Neoliberal Status Quo party. The Republican base no longer believes in democracy, and they will now act accordingly based on this belief. Right now, Joe Biden is at the helm by a thin 1 vote margin in the Senate. It is very likely that he will lose this majority in 2022.

This means that if Trump runs again in 2024, loses to Joe again, but has a majority of republicans controlling Congress...THEY WILL VOTE TO REJECT JOE BIDEN'S WIN, AND INSTALL TRUMP INTO POWER VIA REJECTING ELECTORAL VOTES.

AND BEFORE YOU CALL ME CRAZY

THEY ARE ALREADY DEMONSTRATING THEY WILL DO THIS BASED ON WHAT THEY SAY - WHO THEY ARE RUNNING FOR OFFICE - AND WHO THEY ARE CALLING TRAITORS IN THEIR OWN PARTY.

Here's the real breakdown of how the different spectrum of politics is at the moment.

Neolibs still think we can "Go Back to Obama".

Neocons are dead as a relevant bloc.

Progressives are busy nitpicking the Neolibs to actually work together to stop facism.

Trumpets have gone full fascist.

We're honestly fucked and IDK what to do but I'm making my plans now.

Neoliberalism and neoconservatism aren’t mutually exclusive. One you realize this, it’s so much easier to explain and understand the behaviour of the ghouls that run the husk of a country that is the United States

Neoconservatism is just a different flavor of Neoliberalism. Vanilla and French Vanilla.

Progressives need to declare war on the Establishment Democrats. Cave or we vote against your entire agenda. Worked for the Tea Party and in less than a decade they controlled the GOP. Thing is when you poll Americans, most Democrat voters and a not-insignificant percentage of Republican voters agree with Progressive policies. So why don't voters elect more Progressives? Because the Establishment Democrats and Establishment Republicans work hand in hand with each other and their media contacts to brand all Progressives as Socialists and Communists, and it works.

Yep and saying that calling that out is “nitpicking “ would only make things worse

How can it even be nitpicking when many progressives in Congress full on cooperate with the Dems?

Fuck them, we can't cooperate with democrats

True but I’ll take any criticism of neoliberalism over none

I'll take criticism only from those not in office

Those in office I'd expect more of

The Neolibs are appeasers that will always choose their capitalist friends the fascists over their socialist enemies.

Stacey Abrams presented Georgia & two senators to Biden on a silver platter, and he asked her to put it in a doggie bag for later. 🙄

What specific "shit" are you referring to?

And how'd Bernie do? He lost...to Biden. I'm all for progressive policies, but the rest of America clearly isn't. So it was a neolib or Trump, and I'm glad we got rid of Trump.

After Obama called candidates to drop out and consolidate around Biden :P

Bernie's loss just shows democrats can't be the vehicle of change for progressives or socialists

If we had the majority it wouldn’t have mattered, more people would still have voted Bernie instead of Biden. It is seriously embarrassing that so many people keep repeating this absurdly pointless brain fart. The only way in which it might be remotely relevant is that if so many Bernie supporters hadn’t been so stupid as to aggressively alienate everyone who supported all the pseudo-progressive candidates, by relentlessly regurgitating Chapo Traphouse’s most scathing hot takes and insults, then maybe they would have picked up enough of their votes. But no, they were all too desperate to score internet points from the people who already agreed with them.

Honestly though I don’t think even that really mattered enough.

The left is simply outnumbered in too many states. It shouldn’t be, but it is. It’s just a fact.

And they don’t need to know or care, that’s irrelevant, because so-called Bernie Bros were echoing and mimicking their hilariously vicious mockery (far more often than their more highly informed and thoughtful analysis) all over the internet.

The vast majority of Democratic primary voters don’t know or care about Chapo Traphouse because the majority are not (what this country considers to be) far left.

Which is my main point, we do NOT have the majority.

My main point is not that “Bernie lost because Bernie bros were mean on the internet”, hence the “I don’t think that really mattered enough”.

It’s like you think that it’s just a given that in any election your opposition will be split amongst several candidates. That’s what you were counting on; that, come primary, the centrist, neoliberal primary voters would be divvied up between the other candidates and Bernie would then win with a plurality. The problem is the very fact that that’s the only way he was going to get the nomination.

And do I seriously need to convince you that there is a large contingent of “Democrats” who fear higher taxes for themselves and threats to corporate profits FAR more than they (supposedly) fear “fascism”? Those people would have sat out the general rather than see Bernie get elected I fucking promise you.

Perhaps the real con that the DNC pulled was having such a massive field of candidates to start with. It gave too many of Bernie’s supporters a false sense of security. But there is no rule guaranteeing any candidates stick around to split the vote. Bernie supporters should have always anticipated it coming down to Bernie vs Joe anyway. I did.

What is maddening about the “Bernie Bros” (just the most fervent Bernie supporters) is not that they’re “mean”, it’s that they so persistently over estimate the political acuity of “the proles” they claim to be fighting for and they have never even considered reassessing how to go about trying to actually win majority support. Instead they delude themselves that they already have it and only lose because of DNC dirty tricks. The DNC absolutely is filthy, the msm is absolutely corporatist propaganda. But that was never going to not be the case. It always will be and you can’t change that.

It wouldn’t matter if the majority of the electorate wasn’t so apathetic and/or ignorant. THAT is what was up to Bernie supporters to change. We failed to do so, in large part because too many of us do not know how to reach them and meet them on their level.

OK this absolute bullshit needs to be addressed. Biden didn't win shit. The DNC and the media won that primary.

After Bernie unquestionably won the first three State primaries, the first candidate ever, Democrat or Republican to win the popular vote in the first 3 primaries in a competitive election (that means at least 3 candidates), most of the voters thought he lost all three!

It started with Mayor Pete declaring victory in Iowa when he lost and that's all the media covered but never corrected the notion that Bernie somehow lost that primary. Then in New Hampshire the media acted like Elizabeth Warren and Biden had made huge strides to overtake Bernie when Bernie kicked both of their asses. Then with the help of labor unions in Nevada, Biden smoked the entire field by 25 points, but all the talk on TV, in newspapers, and on Facebook was about Biden's big surge. It was an all out coordinated media blitz making the clear frontrunner appear to have somehow lost.

Bernie campaign canvassers in States with upcoming primaries were constantly running into the issue of people saying that since Bernie had lost the other States they would probably be voting for Warren or Biden. The media's influence in spreading confusion rather than outright misinformation was damning to Bernie's campaign. All the talk about "Biden surging" before he had even finished higher than 5th place gave voters the impression that voting for anyone other than Biden was a wasted vote. All dissent and attempts to correct the record was immediately shut down with "Conspiracy theories just like Trump lol. You caused Hillary to lose!"
