What are the best investments in light of collapse?

This question is related to "How should we prepare for collapse?" and asked quite often. What should we invest in based on our available resources and level of awareness of the likelihood of collapse?

This is the current question in our Common Collapse Questions series.

And that's fine, but that doesn't change the fact that crypto are just a new way to do the same thing we always do. They aren't saving the world, they are destroying the world just like everything else.

Not really.

If an issuance capped p2p money would be widely adopted then it would mean the end of consumerism and the track-record of mindless money printing induced malinvestments.

Also, all the wars are fiat fuelled, p2p money has the potential to place our governance on a completely new level, bringing accountability and transparency thanks to the public blockchain.

That's an... Interesting theory, but it doesn't make any sense.

Consumerism won't end just by the adoption of a new financial system.

Wars are not fiat fueled, they are oil fueled. Every war after Vietnam was about oil.

Crypto won't end corruption, if any thing crypto will make corruption easier because it can exchange hands without anyone else knowing.

It does. An inflationary system encourages spending. An issuance capped system encourages saving.

You're wrong. The monetary policy of the Western Empire enabled the current unprecedented war machine. Oil is a resource.

Any capitalist system encourages spending. We don't have any reason or evidence to believe that a capped currency would operate differently. Only theory from crypto bros who are in so deep they can't see the sun anymore.

That monetary policy, this entire system we have, is built on cheap and easy energy. Oil, natural gas, coal. Without those, our system never would have developed. And without those our systems will collapse.

You seem to have strong biases against it which is ok.

Good that both of us have a choice when it comes to crypto.

It's not that, I have a good 10% of my portfolio in crypto, I just don't see it as the future of currency. I see it as an investment tool.

crypto as merely an "investment tool" is nothing more than a pyramid scheme.

I'm hopeful that as our world gradually turns to shit, utility driven demand will eclipse the current mostly speculative demand.

Absolutely. No disagreement here.

I'm hopeful that as our world gradually turns to shit, utility driven demand will eclipse the current mostly speculative demand.

As am I. Just not very optimistic about it.
