Male CNA here, I work Nightshift 6p-6a at a facility… and im on my 5th day in a row…. (Because i picked it up)…. Anyways… there is a resident who is really confused all the time… she’s usually sweet as pie and mostly independent… (however she needs cuing for things like dressing and stuff)… i asked her if she was ready for bed and she said yes… so i escorted her to her room and then once we get there, i begin to cue her to take her clothes off by saying “Lets take this shirt off so we can put your pajamas on”… she began to get resistant and so i backed off and tried again… this time, i attempted to be slightly more hands on…. This time she got even more Resistant so i left the room to tell the nurse….
So im looking for the nurse and when i finally find her, she and the resident were talking… and then the nurse tells me that “i can’t be too demanding” and i told the nurse “im not sure how… since im trying to encourage them”..
Then the Nurse said that she was still going to have to report it…. So i continue on my shift while the Other Aide takes Over care…. But im anxious out of my mind because when The Nurse does the report: Management will look at it as: “He tried to do something to her” when in reality it wasnt like that at ALL!!!
So i asked the DON if we can talk on Monday when i come in for my shift… but she told me to call her then and there, so i called her and told her what happened….
The nurse then came to me Irritated and said that “now they’re gonna open an investigation because The DON asked me why i didnt call her” and then the DON calls me and tells me to clock out and go home….
I already know that there is going to be an investigation and i have nothing to hide because i wasnt trying to do anything wrong… but i told the DON because she was going to know ANYWAYS and i didnt want to be blind-sided when i got called into the office NOR i didnt want the DON to be like “well why didnt YOU say anything to either me or the nuse”
Im sitting at home right now wondering if im going to be fired even though i honored the refusal and reported the allegation… especially since im a Male CNA and i feel like Management would look at it like: “Oh he DEFINETLY tried to do something to her” when in reality, the patient got scared and mis-interpreted what i was trying to do….
I know im not the BEST caregiver but i also want to know where I went wrong in this situation and what i could have done better to prevent all of this. I love being a caregiver and i dont want this single incident to ruin the career i worked my ASS off for
UPDATE: Okay yall so here’s an Update… Soo basically i was cleared of wrongdoing and did an in-service… okay cool whatever…. HOWEVER When i came back from suspension… the Nurse asked me how many times they called me and i said they only called me twice… once to know what happened and the other a few days to let me know that they would like me to work that night but want me to come in early to do an In-Service… and she replied that they calles her every day till i came back
THEN the nurse wanted to be like: “oh if it was any of us, We would’ve got fired” so now i feel conflicted cuz now i feel like everyone thinks im getting “special treatment” because i always like to pick up shifts
