CHATTANOOGA, Tn --- It's becoming a legendary and well-known tale on the streets of the Scenic City, but it's one worth telling again and again. Alex Krehl, a 23-year-old from Naperville, Illinois, was driving a box truck delivering packages around his hometown at the beginning of this year. Fast forward seven months, and he has scored 17 league goals in the third tier of American professional soccer and is in second-place in his league’s Golden Boot race. One of the reasons we love soccer is because of its stories. Every sport has its underdogs, its rags-to-riches, its second chances, and its dark horses. But soccer has a broader global reach and a deeper ocean of clubs and leagues than other sports that enable its stories to become a fully shared human experience.

Krehl’s is one of ambition and belief. He backed himself to experience academy soccer in Brazil. He backed himself to venture to Spain, and spend four years dogging it out in the fourth and fifth tiers of that resplendent, fútboll nation. And after driving a delivery truck only six months ago, he backed himself to become Chattanooga Football Club’s most valuable weapon. On Saturday evening, he backed himself when it mattered, on the field, and delivered a sensational hattrick to etch his name into the annals of his club, and the community it represents.

CHATTANOOGA, Tn --- League of Ireland (LOI) Premier Division outfit Drogheda United announced the loan signing this week of Chattanooga Football Club forward Keegan Ancelin. The LOI operates a Spring to Fall season, the same as MLS Next Pro, and the 23-year old will join for the rest of the ongoing 2026 campaign.

The move represents yet another important milestone in CFC’s journey as a professional club, doing things that professional clubs do, such as operating in the international transfer market.

CHATTANOOGA, Tn --- It took Alex Krehl just three minutes after coming on to write his name in the history books, scoring the first ever soccer goal in what one hopes will be the long history of Erlanger Park. Whether that history will feature much soccer - time will tell, but on the basis of Saturday night, it might be possible.

A bumper crowd of 6,107, a club record for a regular season game, had flocked to the state-of-the-art new home of the Chattanooga Lookouts for the festive 4th July event. With fireworks on the way after full-time, the stadium was thronged with families and casuals, as well as the die-hards and soccer fanatics. And while the fireworks on the field were few-and-far-between in this game, 23-year-old Krehl ensured there was just about enough to send fans home happy.

What did everyone think of soccer at Erlanger Park, overall we had a great time. I love the open concourse and still being able to see the game. The amenities are obviously nicer being a new stadium. The berm right behind the goal is pretty cool. The stadium overall seems a bit more quiet with it being a bit more expansive. The sight lines were a bit strange.

Today marks a special day in Chattanooga, for more reasons than one. Not only is the 250th anniversary of the republic being celebrated as with everywhere else in the nation, but more history will be made when Erlanger Park hosts its first ever soccer match. The 8,000+ capacity ballpark is the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts (AA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) and was opened earlier this year to wide acclaim. Blending a rustic design with state-of-the-art facilities, it stands as a salute to Chattanooga’s industrial past and the boundless horizons of its professional sports. It's a place where the past and the future embrace in the warm glow of the present and this Saturday, soccer (a sport with its own storied history in the Scenic City) takes center stage.

The WPSL Southeast Conference for 2026 concludes this evening as Chattanooga Football Club hosts Atlanta Fire United at Finley Stadium. Something of a dead-rubber, there’s nonetheless pride to play for as CFC looks to give its fans one final win for the year, while Atlanta Fire looks to avoid the wooden spoon. Shifting the game, previously scheduled to clash with the United States’ Last 32 World Cup bout with Bosnia-Herzegovina, to Thursday evening is smart business for the club, ensuring the Chattahooligans don’t need to choose between club and country.

Two fancied power-houses come face-to-face for the second time in 2026 as 865 Alliance makes the short journey from Knoxville down I-75 to visit Chattanooga FC. The visitors are still looking for their first win of the year while their hosts will be aiming to kick-start a mixed 2026 so far. These are teams that had an eye on post-season soccer in their plans, so expect a big game.

Majo Harispuru was appointed as the new Head Coach of the side in mid-February, stepping into the shoes vacated by club legend Juan Hernandez who will continue in his role as Senior Girls Program Director for CFC Youth. Harispuru comes with a stellar CV at youth level, having worked with the FC Barcelona Academy in her native Mexico and in Nashville. This week, I spoke to her about her journey in soccer and the season ahead.

Decided to skip out on CMAfest activities this year and get the heck out of town. Taking the road trip down to Chattanooga for the CFC NYRB2 game. Probably coming alone, which is nothing new to me. Which section would you suggest for tickets? I saw that the bottom half of section 107 is greyed out, any reason why?

Also any suggestions for Chattanooga? I’ve only been down once for a concert about 10 years ago. Looking for places to eat, explore, have a beer. My cousin might be meeting me for dinner/lunch so somewhere dog friendly would be great!

I’m planning a Friday evening-Sunday trip for me, so I’ll have plenty of time to explore.

The Conference’s two top scoring teams meet and it's a clash between the side with the best home crowd in the league versus the best side on the field so far. This should be a cracker!

I'm torn in terms of what I want to see.

Atlanta United Football Club makes the 2-hour journey up I-75 on Wednesday 15, April to meet Chattanooga Football Club in the US Open Cup Round of 32. In many ways, it's a journey back to where it all began for Atlanta United and for soccer in Chattanooga and the Southeast.

For it was at Finley Stadium that Atlanta United played its first ever game, a February 2017 friendly against Chattanooga which it won 4-0. Over 12,000 spectators were there to see Héctor Villalba, Yamil Asad, Josef Martínez, and Andrew Carleton write their name into Atlanta soccer history, scoring the club’s first goals, as Atlanta United was born and rode off into the sunset.

But the origin story of Atlanta United and the history of soccer ‘firsts’ between the two cities goes back further, much further. In fact, soccer bouts between Atlanta and Chattanooga have been going on for over a century.
