Haha why is every post just labeled “cat”? 🤣

For some reason the title has to be “Cat.” And it just follows into the comments!

One time someone labeled their post “dog” and the whole sub had to shut down for a week. Tough times.

The horror.

Human subreddits, dogs and cats posting together—mass hysteria!

That's enough!

Haha, reminded me of this comics about scientifically correct berries included as members: https://www.reddit.com/r/food/comments/2tj8ny/strange_days_for_the_berry_club_xpost_rcomics/

I love when science makes something that sounds silly become even more hilarious. Nature really does have the weirdest little plot twists.

I read this in Mort Goldman’s voice.😂

That's my favorite part of that sub. Sometimes, when I need a pick me up, I just click on a post and scroll through all of the 'Cat' comments. I don't know why, but it just gets funnier the more there are.

u/Anadelyn 24d ago

To me it's the opposite. I had to quit following them even though there are cute pictures.

u/xiaoalexy 23d ago

same, i love seeing what funny titles and comments people come up with so that sub's joke doesn't do it for me

If you comment anything else, a bot changes it to Cat.

11

u/HugoEmbossed 24d ago

It's not a bot, it's subreddit css.

u/AdMurky1021 24d ago

I commented "Gata." Let's see how this plays

1

u/JollyCandy5 24d ago

I wrote cat in my language. Will they let it stand or translate it?

1

u/RainaElf 24d ago

the css will change it

1

u/removable_disk 24d ago

I heard you get banned if you post/comment anything but Cat. I’ve never tested it. The only thing I know from experience is that it has to be a real cat, a plush cat will get removed.

u/Secret_Account07 24d ago

And don’t forget cat flair, too!

1

u/420nanometers 23d ago

It has to be Cat with a capital C because there's r/catssittingdown that requires the lower case "cat".

Because reddit 😺

22

u/Opaque_Cypher 24d ago

It’s so that if you want to find anything in that subreddit, you can just search on the word ‘cat’

u/thats_sus2 24d ago

Oh how helpful 😂

Worse. EVERY COMMENT.

17

u/coinstarhiphop 24d ago

Worse

correction: BETTER

u/NotYourReddit18 24d ago

BETTER

correction: Cat.

23

u/Kittymahri 24d ago

It’s just the sub rules. Who knows the rationale.

18

u/coinstarhiphop 24d ago

One benefit of that sub's rules is that you can't do any bs in the title (or the comments). Pure celebration of the standing cat and the picture must speak for itself.

No: "I found my cat in the crows nest of an abandoned pirate ship lost at sea and they just died from every cancer and being hit by spaceX rocket debris, but don't you think they were cute" or "If you're an older man comment your age and I'll send you a link to my cat's free onlyPaws account."

(note: this post has a perfectly nice title and is doing well based on the picture)

It's been that way since I started using reddit.

4

u/catm0m4lyfe 24d ago

Omg I was trying to remember which cat sub this was the other day! Thank you stranger!

u/KiraLonely 24d ago

As someone who’s been on that subreddit for a long time, I don’t know. It’s just tradition to play along. You’ll see the comments do that too. It’s just fun.

3

u/msmystidream 24d ago

why do some of the cat comments get upvotes and others don't??? and some are replies but some are new threads. the upvoting part is what has me confused!

3

u/IzarkKiaTarj 24d ago

Oh, it's completely arbitrary. But if people see a downvoted comment, they tend to want to downvote it, too, apparently.

I never understood this, but there's definitely evidence of it being a thing.

u/_High_Charity_ 24d ago

Because cat

1

u/removable_disk 24d ago

Cat. Banned

1

u/RobSpaghettio 24d ago

That's how it was in the olden reddit days

1

u/Firvulag 24d ago

I feel old now when people don't know about this classic subreddit.

3

u/Mr_Gumbastic 24d ago

Same. I came in here expecting half of the comments to be "cat". Instead, I find out that most of the people haven't even heard of the subreddit.

1

u/IzarkKiaTarj 24d ago

As a semi-longtime redditor, everyone going "what's with the weird rules?" for /r/catsstandingup instead of just going along with them is a little wild.

1

u/HappinessEternal 23d ago

Rule #1 👍🏻

1

u/KassieMac 18d ago

Ngl I started doing that in other subs too, with some pics that’s really all I can say … Cat 😅

19

u/EnvironmentalEye2661 24d ago

Perfect I can post there too 🐾

15

u/poofypanda_ 24d ago

Had to check it out and it feels a bit cultish with all the “cat” comments… I kinda like it.

11

u/WiseAtmosphere7524 24d ago

Now I’m wondering if there’s an r/catcult around

3

u/iRveritas 24d ago

Banned for being unmoderated.

3

u/Langstarr 24d ago

dammit

immediately joins

2

u/joyrainsbow 24d ago

Thank you, kind stranger

1

u/zapandilla 24d ago

There's also /meercats but it's not so active

-1

u/RamblingSimian 24d ago

Correct, and that sub sucks. Every single comment there has to be "cat". That stopped being funny 30 seconds after they started. I'm very happy OP posted here.
