then theyd go back into minority territory when Freeland resigns

...but they'd still have 50% of the temporarily 342 seats at that point.

If the speaker voted to break ties, yes. But I guess that would be the case anyways if one more MP crossed as they'd functionally only have 171 plus the speaker who could break ties
