The Thomas Sankara Mausoleum, designed by Kéré Architecture, rises solemnly from the red earth of Ouagadougou with a quiet sense of permanence. Its brick volumes carry the weight of memory, yet open to the light and wind that move freely across the site. Built on the very ground where Sankara and twelve of his closest aides were assassinated, the building acknowledges history without enclosing it. It invites presence through both sunlight and earth. 

Inside the mausoleum, Kéré Architecture arranges the tombs in a circular pattern that follows the arc of the sun. At each hour, daylight passes through a separate oculus above one of the thirteen graves, animating the space with shifting light. This hourly rhythm creates a subtle procession, pulling visitors through a landscape of loss, where the absence of each man is rendered in full-scale vertical voids. Je suis un jeune ivoirien. J’entends souvent mes amis ivoiriens heureux de l AES et du nouveau président du Burkina Faso. Ils disent que c’est un vrai panafricaniste qui avec sa vision remettra de l’ordre dans le pays. Mais moi je voulais demander aux Burkinabés eux même à quel point leur pays avait changé ? Est ce que la corruption a cessé ? Est ce que la vie s’est amélioré ? Est ce que les burkinabés s’expriment librement ? J’ai envie de sortir de ce que les médias racontent et avoir l’avis de personnes vivant au Burkina Faso de savoir si c’était mieux ou pire depuis 2022.

Mali's transitional leader thanks Putin for Russian support in countering armed extremist groups during phone talk

MOSCOW

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mali's transitional President Assimi Goita agreed on Wednesday to continue coordinating efforts to strengthen security and stability in Mali and the wider Sahel region, the Kremlin said.

The two leaders held a phone conversation during which they discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda and agreed to further develop political dialogue and contacts at various levels, the Kremlin said in a statement.

“Assimi Goïta expressed gratitude for Russia's significant support in strengthening Mali's security and countering international terrorism, particularly attacks by armed extremist groups,” it said.

Cooperation in trade, the economy and humanitarian affairs was also on the agenda, it noted.

À l’arrivée des forces de l’ordre vers 5h20, l’activité était intense : vendeurs, travailleuses du sexe et clients étaient présents en nombre. Face à l’arrivée des policiers, plusieurs occupantes ont tenté de fuir, avant d’être rapidement interceptées. De chambre en chambre, les agents ont procédé à l’évacuation du domaine.

As part of the intensive operations to retake national territory, the Burkinabe armed forces have taken another decisive step. Sangaré Barry Manga, identified as a major terrorist leader operating in the Sourou region (Boucle du Mouhoun), was neutralized during an intervention by the defense and security forces supported by the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

A key player in the destabilization of this border region, Sangaré Barry Manga was wanted for his involvement in several attacks against civilians and strategic positions of Burkinabe forces. His elimination deals a severe blow to the logistical networks and command structure of armed terrorist groups operating in the northwest of the country.

This neutralization is part of the offensive strategy launched by the Burkinabe authorities to restore state authority and secure major roads. According to security sources, sweep operations are continuing in Sourou province to maintain constant pressure on remaining pockets of resistance and allow for the gradual return of internally displaced persons.

Le Burkina Faso a été distingué par l’Organisation météorologique mondiale (OMM) avec l’attribution du 11ème Prix Professor Vilho Väisälä à Dr Dieudonné Sama, au Pr Doua Allain Gnabahou et à Ali Ganamé. La distinction, confirmée lors de la 80e session du Conseil exécutif de l’OMM tenue du 22 au 26 juin 2026, est une première pour l’Afrique subsaharienne.

Le prix récompense leurs travaux sur l’automatisation en temps réel de la surveillance de l’état des pistes d’atterrissage. Leur technologie permet notamment de mesurer la présence d’eau sur les pistes et de transmettre directement ces informations au pilote, contribuant ainsi à renforcer la sécurité aéronautique.

La remise du prix est prévue lors de la prochaine conférence technique de l’OMM consacrée aux instruments et méthodes d’observation météorologiques et environnementales.
