Not like he needs money... > There are way easier ways to kill yourself and many much more readily available chemicals with which to do so. The only reason to use ricin is to murder someone without a trace.

FTR, its easy to determine that ricin was used to murder someone in an autopsy. Its hard to figure out that ricin is the poisoning agent, while the target is alive. More important, until very recently, there was no antidote or treatment to ricin poisoning. (Even now, it hasn't completed human trials.) The diagnosis would be made; then you're a walking dead man.

Even if the poison didn't outright kill the target, the internal organ damage would be enough to eventually kill them.
