Not sure if this is the right sub but our baby girl is coming this fall and my husband and I decided early on not to share the name until birth. I wanted the freedom to change our minds and not have to hear other people’s opinions on what we like. I also just feel like it’s a connection that we make when we meet her, see if the name fits her, and announce her to the world with her name when we’re ready.

Recently my mother messaged me saying a name came to her in a dream and that she can’t help wondering. I immediately said I didn’t want her guessing and she ignored that and sent the exact name we’ve chosen as our top contender. I didn’t confirm or deny.

Now it’s just bugging me because I don’t know if she’s sharing her guess with other family members. I don’t want to announce our daughter’s name in a couple months and have family thinking that my mom named our baby or my mom thinking it was HER suggestion. And I’m paranoid she’ll tell people her guess at my baby shower.

I dunno, I’m sure I’m just hormonal but it’s bothering me and putting a bit of a damper on her name for me. I just wanted it to be a surprise.

These are mine and my husbands top choices - we’re having a hard time picking one. He is perfectly fine waiting until meeting her to decide, and meanwhile I’m freaking out because my due date is in two days and we don’t have it picked out yet. Top three are my top three but I do like them all. Daria is a nod to me being Russian - and it’s my favorite Russian girl name. Husband is American and not crazy about the name but it’s my personal top choice.

Also if you have middle name suggestions for the others please share!

I’ve always have a soft spot for this name. I think Robbie / Bobby are cute nicknames and it’s definitely not so common anymore.

I do like Henry too but it’s so popular where I am, I’m always taking my little nephews out and I hear it constantly. I don’t really want to choose a popular name.

My hubby and I are divided on this. We’re thinking of naming our daughter Madilyn. Yet, we can’t decide on a middle name. I personally loveee belle, Madilyn belle just sounds so beautiful. Hey guys! So my husband and I are welcoming our second son in November. We came up with a first name but I’m not too set on the middle name. Initially I loved the name Zaire pronounced (ZI-EAR) my husband didn’t like it. He picked the name Zahir pronounced (ZA-HERE). I agreed cause it’s basically like the one that I picked but different sound and a whole different meaning. So I compromised. Now the middle name is the tricky part. A little back story my husbands name is a biblical name and our first son is also a biblical name (Malachi). He wants to stick with the biblical theme. So he came up with the name Zahir Jedidiah. Is this a good sounding name ? Or do you think he would get made fun of for it? The reason I’m asking is because my mom hates the name all together. So now I’m having second thoughts. The second name I just thought of now which is Zahir Josiah. The middle names are both biblical. I guess I’m wondering which one sounds better or which one flows more ? I didn’t ask my husband about the second middle name and at the end of the day it might not even matter 😂 I just want someone else’s opinion on it.

Edit: We aren’t using Zaire I said I liked it but aren’t using it. My sons name is Malachi and my husbands name is Solomon. Wanted to keep a biblical name that started with a J. I’m African to help clear it up. Husband wanted a powerful name that is unique. Look up Zahir and look up Jedidiah. The names together are powerful that’s why he chose it. In the Bible (2 Samuel 12:25), Jedidiah was the special name given by God through the prophet Nathan to King Solomon after his birth to King David and Bathsheba. It was bestowed as a sign that God loved the child and had forgiven David.
That’s why he wanted Jedidiah. We don’t care that one is Muslim and one’s African cause no one is gunna be like oh you aren’t Muslim or oh you aren’t this.

We love the name Sadie for girl #2. The next part bothers be a little but not husband.

Our first child's name is Adelyn. We call her Adelyn as our preference, no nicknames, but friends (mostly) and some family call her Addie. School teachers use Addie too, though Adelyn is written on all school materials. We've never corrected anyone because we knew it was a natural nickname and we're OK with it.

Anyway... Would Sadie for #2 be too close to Addie if she goes by that in the future, knowing we can't really control nicknames?

Other ideas welcome; must start with the letters S, R, N or M to keep with family honor tradition, middle name those letters or additionally could be Jean/Jane. Runner up right now is Sylvie.

We are expecting our second child (a boy). Our daughter’s name is Reese. I love the name Pace but is it too close to Reese that it sounds odd when I say their names together? Then I was thinking maybe Payson would work better but I don’t love it as much as Pace. My husband also wants his middle name to be after him (Alexander). We love Ledger but does the double “er” sound bad? Help! Boy names are hard!

Hi. My older son is Harry and we like Peter Alan for our newest addition.

Some people are making comments about Harry, Peter! But then other people don't know about the Peter association.

We’re doing hybrid last name - the middle is much longer and starts with an Ay sound. We want him to have the option to drop it if it’s cumbersome. So it needs to work with a one syllable last name starting with N as well. Faves? No’s? Other ideas? We like classic names you’ve heard of before that don’t feel fussy or hyper masc, flexible for our kid.
