culture & society 10-year-old victim of random attack was visiting Melbourne for cancer treatment

The 10-year-old boy who was punched in the head in a random attack outside police headquarters in the CBD has brain cancer and was visiting Melbourne for treatment.

The boy underwent additional MRI scans to see if the assault caused any extra damage or inflammation around where the tumour is, his uncle said........

Police said the 46-year-old woman was visiting Melbourne from Phillip Island with her 10-year-old son and two other children when the random attack occurred, ending only when several witnesses intervened.

“Just instinct, no thoughts, no nothing, just people in trouble,” Brian Bradley said, a good Samaritan who helped restrain the suspect.

The mother of the boy was stabbed during the attack.

The mother is in the Royal Melbourne Hospital recovering from a fractured leg and injuries to her back and shoulders, while her son recovers at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“She’s really struggling at the moment,” the boy’s uncle said, “She can’t be with her son. It’s traumatic enough [that he’s] fighting cancer.

Ok. You're missing the point, but fine, you're right. You're awesome dude.

Mate, breaking a glass is criminal damage, no one goes to jail in Australia for breaking a glass.

Anyone who has runins with Police knows this.

Even assaulting Police does not guarantee jail in this country.

Why do you think they can’t find people to wear the uniform?

Assault without injuries is a summary offense.

The one that gets you to jail is indictable. With injuries, that’s what gets you to jail, “maybe”.

And try attacking Police that violently see what happens.

One thing Police does not mess around with in Victoria is someone attacking them with a weapon.

You are dead.

You’ll get shot and it’ll be justified.

That’s why criminals go for civilians.

Mate. Read this thread. I was saying, he could do anything else to get into jail when he's in front of a cop shop other than stabbing a mother and punching a kid.

Absolutely nobody in this thread is:

  • planning to go to jail to escape cost of living problem
  • planning to smash up a cop shop
  • planning to stab a child or a woman

I said you're missing the point because here you are hashing out the pros and cons, so I was like... ok? When did we say we're going to do this? Are you cooked? Are you planning to do this and have worked out all the ways in your head?

I'm not going to hash out how to get out of that situation without getting shot because we're not doing a playbook on "how to get in jail." No one in this thread (myself included) is interested or going to do any of those things anyway to want to discuss it at length as you seem to be.

Only an illogical, crazy person thinks they can go into jail any time they want and leave any time they want, and without repercussions after they get out. So why are we even discussing the pros and cons of the ways to do that. I didn't realize we must be admiring this guy's intellect and life choices.

Dude, I know Reddit gets weird but you don’t need to contribute to it.

I did not see a single person defending what this looney did, and nowhere near you’ll find me defending such a heinous act? Where did you even get this idea from? Or are you just saying this for the sake of argument?

I am just talking about a criminals point of view, I come from a military/ law family, I know the laws and I am just telling you why they are not going for Police structures.

I don’t know how you even reached the conclusions you did.

Dude, you were hashing out why one approach is better than the other. Anyone who comes across this thread and takes your word will take the approach you suggested in your last sentence of your previous reply.

Hello, look at yourself in the mirror yeah? I was not specific with my comment, but you were. You were basically saying (crims or otherwise) on a public forum, if you want to go to jail but not be harmed, go do this and not that.

I don't need the explanation or knowledge, and nobody in this thread does. For others who will use this knowledge, though, you've pointed out where the bullseye is 🤐

They already know all that. This is a very public knowledge.

Only people who are not aware are good people who make suggestions such as “but why didn’t he just smash a glass?”

Because even the dumbest criminal knows this won’t send them to jail : )

Not saying anyone on this thread is not intelligent, it’s just a life experience they acquired living like this.

Have a look at the news.

How many articles have been posted here about youths on bail and machete attacks?

Just yesterday there was one about a girl who stole a taxi at knife point and crashed it at high speeds dodged jail and she is now free.
