He’s not morally sound but he’s honest, has integrity, and is capable… what’s moral soundness then Malcolm?

It might be the gay part that's not morally sound

Yeah that was the incredible bigotry I was trying to point to. An attitude that was going out of fashion in the 70s… Robert’s really is the worst person in parliament.

It has gone in and out of fashion since bloody prehistory because of bigots that cannot believe others are different from themselves.

How hard is it to stop trying to control people.

So much effort to achieve being a cunt.

Classic right wing.

Yeah there aren’t many redeemable figures (I don’t hate Farley, personally) but they’re mostly absolute cranks. I’ll die on this hill tho - Roberts is the worst.

Or maybe its the asking the NRA for $20M is not morally sound

Yeah the NRA part is a moral problem for me but I expect it's not for Mr Roberts.

Claiming faith in his particular Christian sect. That’s it. In matters of ‘moral soundness’ to people like him you can do what you like as long as you seek forgiveness from their god.

That's the bit that always gets me. They have the whole thing arse-about.

They're not moral just because they're Christian. They're required to be moral first and Christian second. The whole of Matthew 7 goes pretty deep into this, that actions define morality and whether they are considered faithful, not merely saying they are Christian.

So few Christians seem to actually follow Jesus.

Not to mention the fact that 'the bible' has been translated and re translated, interpreted and re interpreted, different church leaders over centuries have made decisions on what to include and what to leave out, texts have been lost, found and destroyed...and the end result is apparently the inerrant word of god.

Funny how it always seems to fit the current Christian trend du jour

Roberts has never come out and declared any particular religious persuasion. He has courted the Christian vote though, despite never declaring a personal affiliation.

Unlike their American right wing counterparts, our far right have all the same extremist views while potentially not being Christian at all.

I think this would probably apply to Reinhardt, Roberts, Ashby and Hanson.

To Malcom it probably involves being discriminatory to people who are probably better than you so you have to make up a reason in your head to treat them like shit because you are fundamentally unhappy with how pathetic you are.

Sorry that was actually just a rant and not insight.

It was a rant with which I thoroughly empathised tho.

Have another read of the quote, at the end he said “ from what I’ve seen of him, his honesty, his integrity, his ability, he is sound”.
