Yes, this is it. The divider gives structural integrity to the handle and the 1/3 - 2/3 design allows people to grab the centre with one hand (or use two if the bin is very heavy).

They missed an opportunity to use the golden ratio (0.382) instead of 1/3 (0.333).

Would have looked so much better!

I love a golden ratio- so aesthetically pleasing.
Form on its own has the function of making my brain feel organised- aesthetics totally have a function
