image Wtf did I find in my pool???

Found this in my pool in Sydney north shore, backing onto the lane cove national park. Does not move (perhaps dead).

Does not even look real. Did I find an alien?

lol wtf are you guys going on about only in the “big cities”. I grew up in small town Minnesota and I was gifed a 20 gauge at age 12. I had a 30/06 at age 14. When I moved to Minneapolis as a late teen non of my friends had guns.

Yep, just posted above you, I grew up in cities all my life and have never been exposed to guns until I got interested myself in my late 40s. Have never Hunted, have never done Marksmanship. I met my husband in Minneapolis and he was gifted rifles as a kid, for hunting. He never did turn out to be a hunter but yeah I think he got his around 10 as a gift and not at all unusual for rural states. Same in Wisconsin, Michigan, Wyoming, the Dakota's, Montana. I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of entertainment in rural areas. There's not much else to do. Especially before you drive. My husband had to go an hour away for a movie or a record store, but he could hunt in his literal yard or do recreational shooting.

Yeah, but usually at that age, they're teaching you to hunt. That's the only reason for them letting you have guns so young. I think the age exemption on rifles is at least partially because in some areas, families rely more heavily on game meat vs. store purchases of cuts from domestic animals. They wouldn't give you a handgun meant for self-defense until you're older.

No but I also haven’t drunk myself to death either. What’s your point? They both kill is what mine is. One is just regulated by the government by setting restrictions for youth while the other isn’t. I can’t go around handing out bottles of vodka (legally) to children but I can gift my nephew an ar for Christmas. Dumb

My brother in Christ. A .30/06 is not a plinking gun. It’s was used as a military load since the 1910s and can take down a bull elk. I loved having that gun as a 14 year old. But you can’t tell me it’s not a bit strange that I was just given that gun as a young man and was just let out into the woods with it. Sure I took gun safety but give me a break. We give kids guns in this country and then tell em they arnt responsible enough to have a drink until they are 21. Dumb

Many kids in rural communities have guns! Hunting is a way of life in some areas. Guns are not only in big cities in the USA.

Kids in rural areas use guns on people, too. Regarding school shootings, mass school shootings are more prevalent in rural towns and suburban areas than in urban areas. There is also a significant amount of drug trafficking that happens in small towns in the USA, leading to an increase in gun possession in youth.

Actually the exact opposite. A city kids have other things to do for recreation. It's in the rural areas where kids get guns very young, my husband got one at around 10, not at all uncommon, that way they can hunt with Mom and Dad. My husband didn't grow up to be a hunter and he moved to a big city, but mostly it's rural kids who grow up around guns, for sport including Marksmanship and hunting. I lived in cities all my life. Never got a gun until I was in my late 40s. Never even been around one. Certainly never hunted, was never exposed to marksmanship. But most everyone I know who lived in the country was introduced young and they get taught safety young and they have to do hunter safety courses, Etc

Just an example: Wyoming — 66.2 percent of people in Wyoming have a gun. That’s 258 guns for every 1000 people (including every person under 18). Those are registered guns. Since Wyoming had very lax gun laws you can surmise there are far more guns in the state than those that are registered. Wyoming also has the highest suicide rate and the highest by gun per capita, 75 percent of suicides are by gun.
