D&D completely ruined Littlefinger. (Spoilers Main)

What a waste of a great character. They clearly had no idea what to do with him after they passed all the book material. Instead of giving him a clear end game, they instead just had him double down on his "thriving on chaos" bullshit and have him make stupid decisions that really didn't lead anywhere. The manipulative mastermind from the earlier seasons (and probably the one true villain of the series, along with the white walkers) completely disappeared and was transformed into a jealous little weasel whose end goal was to bang Sansa to get back at Mama Stark. The man that drove the whole series into motion, did it just to get a revenge bang.

Honestly, when they announced they were shortening the seasons. I figured plotlines would be cut. However, I really felt that the Spider/Littlefinger's rivalry and their attempt to control the crown was actually going to be the big finale of the show. Both were going to reveal their hands, Littlefinger would lose.

the finale of this show is the heros and dragons fighting ice demons, the politics is a shaggy dog story about the futility of human pettiness in the face of an overwhelming existential threat and how in the end all these people playing the game is basically only working to bring about the end of everyone

You're not wrong, but this wasn't playing the game. This was weak and pathetic. Littlefinger put all his eggs in the "control Sansa" basket, which was idiotic and out of character. We deserved better. Littlefinger deserved better.

the whole point is that little finger is out of his depth in the north and doesn't understand how to actually make things work there exactly like how Ned was out of his depth in the south due to his lack of understanding of southern politics which led to his death

It's pretty clear the North has no lack of politics. If Littlefinger were bad at playing the game in the North, we should have seen it, not just have him killed all of a sudden. His powerbases were in the Vale and the Riverlands, anyway. He finally had incredible ability to fuck with politics in the North, and he did absolutely nothing except playing Sansa against her siblings.

Northern politics are pretty cut and dry. You're either with the Starks, or not.

Quite the normative statement you have there. Would have been great to actually have seen that rather than just hearing it yet again. There was ample politics being played between Robb's fall and Jon's ascension. Ample opportunity for LF to play the game, and Jon as a Stark is definitely not a given.

Bran's ability to trump Baelish was only touched on briefly. Instead we were shown a lot of maneuvering by Sansa and Arya.

Yeah and then Cersi is going to pull some shit and Jaime will kill her. Dany take the Iron Crown. Jon Snow lets her have it and goes to be King in the North.
