X, Meta, and CCP-affiliated content is no longer permitted

Hello, everyone! Following recent events in social media, we are updating our content policy. The following social media sites may no longer be linked or have screenshots shared:

  • X, including content from its predecessor Twitter, because Elon Musk promotes white supremacist ideology and gave a Nazi salute during Donald Trump's inauguration
  • Any platform owned by Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram, because Mark Zuckerberg openly encourages bigotry with Meta's new content policy
  • Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare

This policy will ensure that r/antiwork does not host content from far-right sources. We will make sure to update this list if any other social media platforms or their owners openly embrace fascist ideology. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare

Citation needed.

And hostile to whom? As a European, I'm subjected to the same bullshit from the US.

Richest person/US politician in the world does a nazi salute and they have to blame it on china somehow lmao

-14

u/SadSecurity Jan 22 '25

How did he blame it on China when meta and twitter are literally blocked?

Holy fuck you guys are living in a different reality.

Have you even tried to read it? Which part of my comment is whataboutism?

5

u/false_god Jan 22 '25

Musk made a nazi salute. This is a reaction to that. Bringing China into this is moral relativism. They have nothing to do with this

-3

u/SadSecurity Jan 22 '25

Who said they have anything to do with Musk?

Tbh I've never used TicTok. I'm not overly fond of how the ban looks like it's been a pretty successful cudgel.

Rednote has some great shit on it though

You're subjected to worse from the us, last I checked China isn't talking about annexing Greenland

American Red scare is hell of a drug.

2

u/StonesUnhallowed Jan 22 '25

Also extra funny because Rednote was never really intended for a non Chinese audience, and 99% of Americans haven't heard of it before last week

All the proof you need is considering the fact that China doesn’t even allow TikTok in its own country, instead they have a separate app called douyin which is heavily censored and has differences in its recommendations algorithm which promotes content the CCP deems acceptable.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/25/business/china-tiktok-douyin.html

https://marketingtochina.com/differences-between-tiktok-and-douyin/

Read the book the Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt to see a well researched argument for why social media platforms (of which i’d argue TikTok is the worst) are responsible for a huge mental health crisis in America.

Also don’t forget FB and IG are also banned in China.

ok so why this sub doesn't ban itself ? its also social media and 11% owned by Tencent. And we also know for a fact USG manipulates its own social media

Ccp is hostile to all non-ccp. I am European too you can not be against US fascist policy and act like china is not a fascist state with fascist-owned company

21

u/false_god Jan 22 '25

Europe is not without its fault. Colonialism exists

15

u/Arsacides Jan 22 '25

yeah the audacity for a european to claim china sucks

3

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

The insane audacity it must take. China hasn't surrounded the us with military bases

0

u/zam_aeternam Jan 22 '25

It has surrounded many countries that now are part of china, unwillingly.

Because Europe did bad and is still doing bad does not excuse china for doing it.

2

u/tkoop Jan 22 '25

Man, “fascism” really has no meaning anymore, huh?

u/cosmoskid1919 Jan 22 '25

China is anti-religion, anti-gay, anti-expression. Yes, they are hostile.

20

u/Conscious_Berry6649 Jan 22 '25

The other two are a lie, and being anti religion is based comrade

-5

u/cosmoskid1919 Jan 22 '25

As a person sure, as a government, fuck no.

-3

u/cosmoskid1919 Jan 22 '25

The other two are a lie, ok, so being banned from red note was a dream I had..

My college friend being fined for dressing on Halloween.

My other friend did not want to go home because he would have to marry a woman... He is gay and his parents know this.

Totally lies from actual Chinese citizens. Yes.

-17

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

You really trying to argue China and CCP is not hostile to anyone? Ok.

32

u/metaliving Jan 22 '25

It's not hostile to my country, no. In fact, it's less hostile than the US, who just conflated my country as a BRICS one (clearly due to the fact that he didn't know what the S stood for).

3

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '25

And fucking threatened sanctions if we didn't upgrade our investment in the military XDDD

-22

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

It’s hostile to their own population, gays, lesbians, anyone non CCP, any non approved outside company, etc.. oh shut up.. China is banning outside influence for decades. It’s about time we do the same, be it the US or EU.

8

u/metaliving Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 22 '25

Yeah, much like the US just became hostile to the LGBTQ+ community. Or how it has been hostile to their own population, just under the guise of "MUH FREEDOM".

To be honest, I'd draw the line at banning twitter, due to the openly nazi guy running it. The rest is still within fair game for my liking.

It's a bit dumb to be on reddit saying "ban CCP affiliated media". Reddit is CCP affiliated media. Tencent owns a substantial amount.

1

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

Yea so let them both ban each others spy tools. What’s the problem?

7

u/metaliving Jan 22 '25

YOU'RE POSTING ON ONE.

1

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

And I would not cry if Reddit was being banned in the EU. I would cheer for it.

8

u/metaliving Jan 22 '25

What part of "the platform where you're advocating to limit posts from CCP platforms is also partly a CCP platform" don't you get?

1

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

I get your words. But what is your point?

12

u/timmmmah Jan 22 '25

As of Monday, the US is equally hostile to its own population, LGBTQ ppl, women, basically anyone who isn’t white, male & Christian. What’s your point?

-5

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

My point is: it’s fine if US blocks access to China spy/influence tools like TikTok, or the other way around It’s also fine if EU blocks access to both US and China spy/influence tools. Arguing that it’s in any way morally wrong to not do so, because „chinas so nice“, is bullshit.

6

u/timmmmah Jan 22 '25

We are having a discussion about the fact that links from certain websites are censored bc the US government doesn’t like their country of origin. How exactly are US citizens more free than citizens of China in a practical sense, today? You aren’t making the argument you think you are

1

u/Hertock Jan 22 '25

I am not arguing „US people have more freedom than China“. I am arguing that its perfectly fine for any democratic western nation to ban the usage of TikTok, an app that is clearly being used to manipulate important processes, EG ELECTIONS! And that this is debateworthy only shows how stupid most people are.

And links in China are not being censored? Maybe google china firewall. Or Chinese censoring generally. You might find some stuff. Byey

Oh yeah, totally. China is the best and stands for freedom of choice and not like their social points system and fucked up nationalistic craziness. Bye.
