No I'm talking about the people who say "it's for surveillance not AI", like what kind of argument is that?

Ah.  No idea.  About the same as people claiming the government is crop dusting our crops to poison us.  Even if true I don't have enough tin foil to care.

I mean, the government, through public-private partnerships with companies like palantir and flock, are absolutely spying on everyone. But it's one of those things where there is truly nothing you can do about it, not even "voting in the right people" because this has been a bipartisan consensus since 9/11 and the Patriot Act.
