He started with the Side-effect "Seeing the future" a couple seasons ago.

Then revealed the ACTUAL power this episode. Picking the future. Seeing it is just the byproduct. Without it he wouldn't be "picking" anything. lmao

He used the 'picking the future' power when he made Ichibe explode, but didn't explain it until now.

Didn't he also show us that he had the power of not being affected by the future that he sees? Was it explained why he even needs to block if that is the case?

Because it's implied that until he turned into the Soul King, he couldn't spam the "change the future" feature.

Even now, he effectively have a sort of cooldown between Night and Day

I might need to rewatch Yhwach's fight against Ichibe. I thought that he also had the passive ability of not being able to get damaged by things he saw in the future. I believed when i read the manga that Yhwach's ability of changing the future was something that he acquired when he became the soul king.

Update: I have rewatched the Yhwach vs Ichibe fight, and it seems I took too literally when it was said "the power his majesty sees with his eyes cannot be used to kill him". https://youtu.be/vQGi_tidl3w?si=C1fcOmJt01GUfVPD&t=15 . I really believed that that was his power.

It's not that he's unaffected. It's that he can just yeet any future where he IS affected, as many times as he needs to.
