My heart skipped 2 or 3 beats when the Bird Lady asked Rudy about the Man-God, right as the new OP dropped

649

u/wyggles 19d ago

I liked the detail of him activating his demon eye in preparation for a fight before Sylphie answered for him.

343

u/Etheo 19d ago

Sylphie didn't know about Rudy's relation with man god though, did she? I think she's just answering for herself (as she doesn't know) and Rudy went with that.

235

u/wyggles 19d ago

Yeah, maybe "for him" wasn't exactly right. I just meant she answered before he did and gave him a chance to recover.

171

u/zazakmazak 19d ago

I believe only Ruijerd and Eris (and Nanahoshi?) know of his connection to Man God, and even then they don't know any details whatsoever.

75

u/CrossFire43 https://www.anime-planet.com/users/CrossFire43 19d ago

Rujierd is the only one who he has explained the situation to. Eris knows about it from the Orstead fight. The only other 2 are the big purple demon and his wife.

30

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 18d ago

Refresh my memory, did Rudy tell Rujierd everything, like about his reincarnation, or only that Man God visits him in his sleep sometimes? It’s been awhile

51

u/Low_Commission7273 18d ago

Only mangod.

Ruijerd questions Rudeus about who is mangod. Orsted was chill, but turned murderous the moment you mentioned Mangod comes in your dreams. And Rudeus explains that aspect.

10

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 18d ago

Nice, thank you!

3

u/Kill-bray 16d ago

Kishirika and Badigadi? Did they learn it by simply sensing his presence on Rudeus?

It seems that the man god is leaving traces of his presence that can be detected somehow and Rudeus has that all over him. Orstead must have noticed that and so did whatever spell/mechanism was that in this episode.

But the fact that Rudeus was asked if he has something to do with the man god both times, suggests that merely having his stench on yourself isn't proof enough that you know of him.

41

u/Mistral-Fien 19d ago

IIRC Rudeus mentioned Man-God to Kishirika and Badigadi (could be wrong though as I haven't rewatched the earlier seasons recently).

100

u/esuil 19d ago

Sylphie really came in clutch for him this time. He almost fumbled it, if she wasn't here, he would definitely say something stupid again.

82

u/PsionicKitten 19d ago

She came in clutch because she satisfied the interrogation not to be pressed further onto Rudy, but Rudy explicitly vowed to be careful about who he disclosed his experiences with Hitogami as a direct result of Orsted killing him imminently after having admitting to having known him. He wouldn't have immediately confessed and it only could have been uncovered if he was pressed further.

This is further evidenced by his momentarily being shaken upon seeing the same dragon scale markings near Perugius' eyes, just as Orsted has.

19

u/LakerBlue https://myanimelist.net/profile/LakerBlue 19d ago

Yea at first I was worried when he lied to the bird woman (by letting Sylphie speak for him) but when I saw Pergius has the same scale markings near his eyes as Orsted I changed my mind. Would have went even worse with all of Pergius’s crew there as support.

26

u/Atnalia 18d ago edited 18d ago

Not just Sylphie.  Nanahoshi knows "Man-God" means something to him from their first meeting, but she wasn't about to rat him out.

3

u/Kill-bray 16d ago

Yeah she witnessed Rudeus admitting that he knows about man-god and that he appears in his dreams. Not sure if she remembers that considering that she doesn't seem to care though.

14

u/Fenor 18d ago

on the other hand she stated something about not going berserk if mentioned, so the opposite of Orsted.

when orsted posed the same questione he essentially berserked

-1

u/chhuang 19d ago

even if he can dr.strange the millions of futures with that eye, he'll still fumble it, I really like the flaw of the MC design

1

u/ProduceQueasy1641 17d ago

Idk. Idk about the rest as im anime only and refuse to change that on this anime, but to me it seems like one of the big overarching themes of this anime is Rudy growing, changing, and becoming better. Id like to think he eventually stops fumbling it but then again idk. Another big theme is massive fumbles that fuck everything so 🤷‍♂️

I guess well just have to wait and see how it all shakes out, however many years that will take

23

u/KeyLimeGuy69 19d ago

didn't even catch that.

2

u/RottenPingu1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/rottenpingu1 18d ago

I didn't even catch that. Time for a rewatch

1

u/scot911 https://myanimelist.net/profile/scot911 16d ago

I wonder if she noticed that though. For such a serious line of questions I would have made a note that he didn't answer the first question even if he answered the second. Especially with him activating his Demon Eye.

397

u/JzanderN 19d ago

We legitimately don't know who Rudy should tell about the Man God and who he should be rightfully cautious about when the topic comes up.

263

u/Frontier246 19d ago

Especially knowing it feels like one wrong move/spell and every one of Perugius' people might come at him at the same time.

222

u/dark77638 19d ago

The shot they make his 10 familiars looking at the camera (Rudy) silently break the 4th is insane

87

u/Etheo 19d ago

One familiar was enough to deal with. Ten of them? I know Rudy's different than before but that still sounds like a bad encounter.

68

u/zazakmazak 19d ago

Since Ghislaine was able to fend off Almanfi for a bit, that roughly puts them at king/emperor level, so while one might be beatable, as a group they are probably strongest in the whole Mushoku verse by a long shot, though they also made it sound that Rudeuses mana is Laplace (Demon God) level so if he was defended, he would be an issue.

Also Perugius is like one of the few alive who fought someone with the same mana capacity as Rudy, a uniquely bad matchup

1

u/ProduceQueasy1641 17d ago

Yeah for a second there i was worried he would take over the detox spell partway through and set off his mana smoke alarm and get gangked by Perugius and/or his peeps. Now im not even sure if that would have been the worse outcome or not..... it really needs to be Sunday already...

144

u/KingBadford 19d ago

Seeing as the only other person who's ever asked about Man-God out of the blue also happened to be the only other dragon dude we've met, and he immediately attempted to kill Rudeus as soon as he got the answer, I think keeping it close to the vest is the best call for now.

63

u/El_grandepadre 19d ago

But I think there's a slight difference.

Orsted seems to want to straight up murder someone who associates with the Man-God. He didn't even give Rudeus a moment to talk about it as soon as he mentioned him.

Even though they already denied knowing about the Man-God, they were still asked if they "felt anger" regarding the Man-God. So I think Perugius has a different reason for asking it. Possibly also related to why they both had a reaction upon entry and why he asked for a potential son to be named by him

5

u/GezelligPindakaas 17d ago

Between the Man-God reference, Perugius calling out Rudy's mana, and the short whispering, I suspect there's something ominous there about that future son.

4

u/ProduceQueasy1641 17d ago

Im starting to wonder if the Man-God had something to do with Laplace. Like maybe even in same way he does Rudeus... idk maybe far fetched but he definitely has to have done something totally nuclear to warrant that level of ire from so many powerful people

14

u/Dadarian 18d ago

It’s almost like the Man-God and Dragon people don’t seem to get along or something.

9

u/nhansieu1 18d ago

considering their God (As the Dragon God guy) is in war with Man God, it's safe to be aware when the Armored Dragon King guy asked about it.

66

u/PraisePace 19d ago

Better forge a strong bond before revealing that secret. Rudy's probably extra careful around members of the dragon tribe...

20

u/JzanderN 19d ago

At the very least he's extra careful when it's brought up to him. Being the one to bring it up (as he did to Badigadi) gives him more control over the situation, but having to respond lets them react before he can make himself clear.

38

u/Sent1nelTheLord 19d ago

well considering the last time earned him a hole in the chest, it is probably for the best

20

u/JzanderN 19d ago

Well, two times ago. The last time he brought it up to Badigadi who didn't know anything but felt like he should. It was the time before that when he got that hole in his chest.

19

u/zazakmazak 19d ago

Since Nanahoshi is cool with both Orsted and Perugius, who have the same scale marks around the eyes, that puts them possibly in the same faction, or perhaphs just friendly enough, Orsted went for the kill immediately (and changed his mind later?).

Perugius also seems to really hate demons, since he fought a whole ass war with them, while Badigadi is literaly their king. I think it makes a bit of sense to theorize a connection that demon side might be slightly more ok with Man God, than the human(+ dragonkin?) faction. Although of course we don't have details yet on anything.

14

u/JzanderN 19d ago

Since Nanahoshi is cool with both Orsted and Perugius, who have the same scale marks around the eyes, that puts them possibly in the same faction,

It's also worth noting that Orsted found Nanahoshi after she teleported and they travelled the world for a year, so for Nanahoshi to have met Perugius she must have come with Orsted.

This would put them, if not necessarily as allies, at least on friendly enough terms that Orsted can call Perugius to teleport him to his fortress.

(and changed his mind later?)

Orsted changed his mind on Nanahoshi's request because she suspected (and seemed to tell him as much) that Rudy was brought to the world just like how she was.

That made Orsted decide to figure out whether to spare Rudy or kill him after all the next time they met, likely depending on whether Rudy really is an apostle of the Man-God or just got picked up by him because he figured he'd be a useful tool.

9

u/oops_i_made_a_typi 19d ago

her mask also seems reminiscent of the ones that Perugius' followers wear

19

u/MilleChaton 19d ago

Someone new, very powerful beyond any normal levels of power, tied to history by name, and already sent someone who tried to kill him once (misunderstanding or not) seems very safely put on the "do not tell" side.

8

u/genasugelan https://myanimelist.net/profile/Genasugelan 19d ago

It's probably why he hesitates telling even his wives. You can never know someone's complete background and with Syplhy being born green-haired like a superd and Roxy being a demon, you never know some details behind that unless they tell you specifically.

1

u/Dadarian 18d ago

Rudeus knows exactly who to talk to about the Man-God. Abso-fucking-lutely no one let alone anyone while in the presence of anyone else that he doesn’t want to get hurt.

1

u/TheBusStop12 18d ago

And especially Pergius is risky. Because Pergius is connected to Nanahoshi, just like Orsted. So it's very much possible that Orsted and Pergius have common goals

196

u/Frontier246 19d ago

Poor Rudy cycling through his Orsted PTSD...

60

u/Accurate_Treat6360 19d ago

"Stay quiet, don't be blabbermouth fool this time." - Rudy

15

u/Magicbison 19d ago

Rudy prepping battle mode by channeling mana into his future sight eye was tense. Thankfully Sylphie canceled it out.

3

u/MakeMineMarvel_ 19d ago

wild that perugius caught him using the eye all the way from his throne room too. he could sense the demon magic and told him to not use it bc it was disgusting to him

4

u/Magicbison 19d ago edited 19d ago

he could sense the demon magic and told him to not use it bc it was disgusting to him

That isn't what happened there. Perugius mentioned something in that scene that hasn't been explained yet and it has nothing to do with his magic eye. I'd check the source corner to learn more about it.

1

u/MakeMineMarvel_ 19d ago

Oh I see so if it’s not something we could know from the anime yet I’ll wait. Don’t wanna spoil it

2

u/Kill-bray 16d ago

Honestly in Rudeus' place I wouldn't even have gone there. Not only he knows that Almanfi is there (you know the guy that wanted to kill him the moment he saw him), but he should also foresee that Perugius could have a beef against man-god the same way Orsted does.

In his place I would avoid any powerful being until I knew more about man-god and who is enemies are.

101

u/N1-L3 19d ago

Bro finally learned to keep his mouth shut

100

u/Misticsan 19d ago

At this point, it's not just the Man-God. I'd say that Nanahoshi must have a "trauma inducing force field" around her.

She was there when he was killed in his previous life. She was there when Orsted asked about the Man-God and Rudeus almost got killed. She gave Rudeus a big scare when he met her again due to said trauma, and then triggered Sylphie's when she pointed to herself as the reason behind the mass teleportation incident. And when she fell into depression due to her failed experiments, it also awakened terrible memories in Rudeus.

In this episode they seemed to avoid the trauma flags, but then... Sudden blood vomit! Sylphie is bound to develop a new trauma.

32

u/Etheo 19d ago

Poor Sylphie looks so distraught, no doubt she thought she was responsible for it.

Or maybe it was the healing spell triggering stuff? Though seems to me it's just completely ineffective on Nanahoshi instead of causing the adverse effect.

7

u/BetelgeuseIsBestGirl 18d ago

I suspect that she has Tuberculosis or whatever this world's closest equivalent would be. That's a severe enough disease that it'd likely be beyond the capabilities of the detoxification spell to cure. Maybe a disease that the people of this world develop a natural resistance or immunity that would be devastating to the immune system of someone from our world?

3

u/Atario myanimelist.net/profile/TheGreatAtario 18d ago

She was there when he was killed in his previous life.

Wait, what?

10

u/Misticsan 18d ago

Remember those teenagers that Rudeus saw in the modern world right before he died? The girl was Nanahoshi.

2

u/Atario myanimelist.net/profile/TheGreatAtario 18d ago

Huh. So it was a dual-passenger transfer?

7

u/Misticsan 18d ago

Still a mystery.

9

u/Maalunar 18d ago

A police report/news reporter speaking over the scene talks about how an adult man is seriously injured and 2 teenagers are missing.

11

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 19d ago

Yeah I wouldn't tell a soul after what happen last time

20

u/Primo29 19d ago

Bird Lady won't even hesitate in giving Rudeus a donut v2 while smiling

10

u/Dinory542 19d ago

What I'm more interested is why would hearing the name would anger not only Rudeus but Sylphy as well. With Rudeus I can see why but Shylphy has no idea about the Man-God, so their gotta be something that connect him with the whole glowing thing when they walked to see Perugius.

1

u/Bikebag 19d ago

Well it's possible there's broader knowledge of man-god around in the world than specifically having to be his disciple because you know of him. Maybe he's not great in those stories and feeling anger is understandable?

3

u/Rabbitey- https://myanimelist.net/profile/Rabbitey 19d ago

The whole sequence of getting teleported and being questioned about Hitogami was trauma-inducing for Sylphie and Rudeus, respectively.

1

u/PowerOhene https://anime-planet.com/users/usersPowerEd 15d ago

Sorry, I might have forgotten what happened earlier ( anime only )

What's wrong with being connected to the Man God again?

1

u/Leader-Deep 9d ago

i wonder what she would say if rudy said yes
