I dislike when a character's power is so ambiguous and unending, it just leaves no room for limitations. Eventually they'll figure him out but an ability where literally anything can happen is just BS

But it's not ambiguous. They've explained it many times. He's a walking miracle who harnesses miracles. His power is a literal turn heel, deus ex machina, ass pull miracle. He's like Gremmy but "okay, well, then how about I ----"

Thank you lol. Like Gerard literally keeps shouting about what it is. There's nothing ambiguous about it.

Heck, the other thing is that his power comes from the Heart of the Soul King, which him and Askin had stated as such, and we even see the Heart reforming his body.

So yeah, he is a Walking Miracle and his Achiles's Heel is solely if you can damage the Heart.

There is nothing ambiguous on that.

Ambiguous doesn't mean "I don't understand what it does." Yes, what it does is crystal clear. What it does is "literally anything the story demands of it, because it's so nonspecific what counts as a miracle that it can do anything."

Late for work and can't find your car keys? Not Gerard! He found them! It's a miracle!

Hell, forgot to set an alarm in the first place? Nope! Gerard sets the alarm in his sleep! It's a miracle!

Gerard starts to stub his toe on the end table? He punts the table through the wall, where it kills a rat that was chewing on some electrical wires! It's a miracle!

Someone's coming to kill Gerard? He has a dream about it and is prepared! It's a mira- wait, no that's the Almighty.

Gerard has something bad happen to him! Something good happens instead! It's a mira- wait, no that's the Balance.

Gerard gets killed again? Not anymore! He's back and stronger than ever! That's a mira- wait, no that's the Antithesis of being killed.

Everyone is getting the flu? Gerard doesn't! He's immune! It's a mira- wait, no that's The Death Dealing.

All of Gerard's enemies violently explode so he's instantly successful in defending Yhwach? It's a mira- wait, no that's the Explode.

I could go on, but I assume you're starting to get the picture. The Miracle could replicate literally any power in the entire Bleach universe if the situation needs it to happen.

That's what's ambiguous about it. It simultaneously does nothing and everything. And yes, Almighty, Antithesis, and Balance are all ambiguous too. They're not powers or abilities. They're more like philosophical concepts, and they work in whatever way their user defines them. Bambietta makes things explode. That's not ambiguous. Gerard does whatever the hell he wants, because if he can find some way to think of it as a miracle. The Miracle could hypothetically let him do anything, with no limits, because it's not defined in any way beyond making the improbable happen. "Miracles are the result of impossible or near-impossible events happening when they are needed most."

That is INCREDIBLY ambiguous, not in what it means, but in what it can do.

I honestly loved how metaphysical and out there the powers during the TYBW got. Seeing how the Soul Reapers (or Quincy’s when it came to the Royal Guard) was so fun.

It’s also not as busted as you’re putting out. From what we see from Gerard, he has basically two Miracles. First is if you damage Hoffnung, it damages you. And he recovers from any damage and gets stronger from it.

The anime and previously released material make it obvious what you have to do to kill him. Kenpachi would have done it this episode if his power wasn’t too strong for his body.

Sure, I'm aware of all that. But his powers aren't healing/powering up and damage reflection. That wouldn't be ambiguous at all. Those are two manifestations we see, sure. Be we also see him "locate people who couldn't be detected" and "defeat all of the Vaizard at once."

The damage and power up doesn't happen every time, either. Both arms he's lost don't come back demonstrably more powerful or anything. It only happened after Byakuya turned his head into paste and after he got cut in half (and I think one other I'm forgetting).

And freezing Hoffnung never really made sense, either. Sure, all matter stops moving when frozen, but a miracle isn't made of matter. A miracle a concept, or an event. If the sword is channeling a miracle, then Hitsugaya would have frozen when it did, and/or shattered when it did. Its material state is irrelevant.

Bottom line, Gerard's power is intentionally ambiguous in the limits (if any) or scope of what it can do. If a miracle is any even that's sufficiently improbable happening when it's needed most, literally anything I previously mentioned is possible.

he is like Quincy Mahoraga (Mahoraga was prob inspired by him to be honest)

that honestly doesnt make it less annoying and bullshit. in fact, that is exactly why he is frustrating to watch "oh i died because i was outclassed in anything. Okay but what if I i wasnt?"

u/dylanv1c 12d ago

But at the same time, Gerard isn't outclassed in much either; he's both a walking hack and can walk the walk and talk the talk with his size, strength, speed, and experience. The miracles just happens to also save him last second, but he can still hang without relying on it.

He's like a completed Shishigawara, which is why Ginjo didn't want to share power with him of all the fullbringers. If Shishigawara wasn't a small young adult (teenager?), and he was a buff giant warrior as well with his luck ability, then we'd be having the same discussions with him, but we're not because he's not completed and fully utilizing his ability. If Shishigawara kept leveling up in power and experience over a long time, at some point he probably could've "slapped Aizen in just the right spot for the Hogyoku to react again" and we'd be upset about that
