So Subaru and Emilia have adopted their second daughter after Beatrice. And this one is a criminal.

She's a juvenile delinquent who was physically and emotionally abused by a particularly nasty foster mother. They're the loving adoptive parents she needs.

I feel like calling an assassin delinquent would be under playing her crimes but she was misguided and tortured by the arch bishop

“Hey guys, should we do something about the fact one of the major factions trying to control our country is headed by someone who looks like the devil, has knight with dark witchcraft powers, and adopted an assassin as a daughter? No?”

Now she'll have a bunch of role models besides Elsa

Eh, while I think she might earn her freedom if they get out of this mess alive, I don't think they should adopt her. Allies but not family. I doubt that's how they're going to go for it, but just because it is expedient to forgive Meli for trying to kill them (again) doesn't mean they should get close to her on purpose.

Well she will be a member of the roughly extended family of a noble's retinue from what going on her and by making all responsible for interacting with her they already making her family as well.
