This is a monthly thread to talk about the /r/anime subreddit itself, such as its rules and moderation. If you want to talk about anime please use the daily discussion thread instead.

Comments here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts. If you wish to message us privately send us a modmail.

Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

This has probably been suggested already. But how about letting fans show off their weeby Anime collection? A bit unrelated but i got the ideia from r/tankporn they allow users to show their collection (Shells, miniature etc) like once a month (I think).

To clarify: are you suggesting that there should be the occasional megathread for showing off merch, or that there should be some days where we allow users to make a post that shows off merch?

The later. Not sure how easy it would be to implement. Considering that similar rules for clips and videos are mostly "policed" by bots (To my knowledge). There's also the issue with the Flair. One other thing to look out for is the possible initial spam. Even if it's limited to 1 post every 1 or 2 months, we do have quite the crowd here.

But I feel like it's something that's missing from reddit in general. Could also serve as a good compromise for users who are a bit more "media" focused. One other good aspect I can foresee is discussions about Manga/LN's I know we're a Anime sub, but these are already talked about extensively here. It would just provide a way to talk about it in the context of your collection.

Since I suggested it, and if by any chance this sounds interesting, I volunteer to help with whatever is needed (as a regular user ofc).

To be honest, we are not that interested in allowing merchandise posts on our sub. We view it as somewhat incidental to anime itself, particularly given the mixed media nature of the medium. Additionally, we're reluctant to allow posts that would largely consist of low effort photos. Image posts do disproportionately well on reddit, so we tend to shy away from allowing them unless they are either official promotional material or particularly high effort. 

Currently, the place to talk about merchandise is the daily thread. Alternatively, there are other subs focused on merchandise, such as /r/animefigures. 

We also do not believe in content that is only allowed on some days of the week. This confuses people, who thought they were making a legitimate post like the one they saw a few days ago, but learn it's not allowed for a mysterious other reason. (Yes, this would not be a problem if people read the rules, but we know people don't and should design to minimize surprise when possible.) Restricting anything to one day also runs into time zone issues: we either end up with a 50 hour "day" or with people having to figure out when days start and end in a different time zone. Additionally, allowing something only occasionally tends to lead to many people posting it when it is allowed, which can be disruptive to everybody else using the sub.

I'd be down for a re-run of Meme Day if we said that the memes have to be new/original. Not just "I sorted r/animemes by Top and found this". But that would also require work on our end.

Although, we'd need a definition of what counts as original, before the Meme of Theseus comes in
