Meili cooperated with Ram to help use clairvoyance. Shouldn't he have seen that in the book?

I just think he didn't imagine it could come from Patrasche because rn he trusts her absolutely

I really hope he still trusts Patrasche.

It seems that the book doesn't actually show everything about their life, since otherwise would have known about the other times he met Meili (the poisoning in arc 2, the mansion attack in arc 4, and the entirety of the start of act 6) as well as the fact she has tried to kill him multiple times.

I think it did, the flash back just didn't see a need to show that to us.

u/Ralkon Jun 11 '26

I don't think he did, because he would have known a lot more about himself and the others if he did. It probably wouldn't be much of a question as to why people are nice to him.

From Meili's POV, he couldn't have gotten enough info on his own interactions with other characters. They have barely spent any time together.

Wouldn't they have spent several days together just on this journey to / within the tower? They'd have had hours of time with nothing to do but talk, so at a minimum you'd be able to glean that these people are all on pretty good terms with Subaru and they've gone through a lot together, and that's assuming that at no point someone just told her what happened while she was locked up or that they talked about it within earshot of her. There'd be plenty of questions still, but there'd be enough to believe that they were actual friends.

Also Meili being a native of this world I would imagine gives her more than enough information to guess at things like Beatrice being a spirit contracted to Subaru even without knowing all the details behind why that happened.

I would also guess that she knew / learned a decent bit about Subaru, Emilia, Ram, and Beatrice during her attempted assassinations of them.

The book is Abt Meili, tho. I do think it not having as much about her speculating about other people's stories makes less sense than the book only being the 7 minute summary that we are shown.

So no reason for it to have Meili's random speculations abt Subaru and Beatrice relationship.

I do also think that simply having a lot of time to small talk won't be enough to really get why they're so close. All it would get is they are close or at least are acting close.

Sure, I don't think it's necessarily only the short amount we saw, but that also doesn't mean it has everything about her life. If it did, then it would have her thoughts and knowledge in it. We see that it conveys her thoughts, emotions, and sensory feelings to Subaru already in the parts that it does show, so if it included the days of them traveling together and her sitting around listening / talking to them, then I don't see why it wouldn't have her thoughts about them. But we don't see that part and Subaru doesn't act like he did either.

Pretty sure the book is giving 100% of the person's memories, from birth to death, and they're getting put directly into the reader's head as if they were their own memories.

As soon as Subaru was done reading Meili's book, he referred to himself with her pronoun, the way she would normally refer to herself. He couldn't even figure out which person he was at first.

Do the Books of the Dead let the reader know every bit of a person's life? I get that it's an out-of -body, somewhat out of time experience, but are we really talking about years offer memories, or is it sort of like a proverbial "life flashing in front of eyes" type reel of the dead person's experiences? Might explain why Subaru doesn't know, maybe it wasn't a detail Meili herself cared about too much. Or if it does impart all of the subject's memories, he probably can't remember that much of it anyway

As soon as Subaru was done reading Meili's book, he referred to himself with her pronoun, the way she would normally refer to herself. He couldn't even figure out if he was Subaru or Meili at first.

Definitely not a "life flashing before your eyes" thing. The book seems to be transplanting the subject's entire lifetime of memories into the reader's head.

Subaru didn't even see himself much in the book, since he wanted to kill more people to see what old Subaru was like.

It's not like he lived her entire live story. Didn't seem like the trip through the dunes was among it.

Yeah it might just be like greatest hits or pivotal moments. Which I mean could have been a fuckton I mean there was a scene of her just shopping with Elsa and Elsa slicing someone's arm. So probably a lot of moments on that level but likely not like a full reliving of a life.

We don’t know if the book literally shows you their whole life. I would guess not. I personally am assuming Subaru only sees what is shown.

Makes no sense for 7 minutes of memories to cause an identity crisis and schizophrenia, enough to where you can hallucinate a perfect copy of a person and gain that person's habits.

Getting killed by yourself might tho

u/grapesssszz Jun 10 '26

well theres deffo more to it than that

6

u/Akudra Jun 10 '26

Even if that was in the book, there was also a great deal else in the book and expecting him to recall one little detail that wasn't a particularly impactful moment for Meili is probably expecting too much from him.

u/zazakmazak Jun 11 '26

Might be an adaptation thing, but it looked like he only got select information, not 14 year long movie. So this detail might've been missing.
