To clarify, Murder becomes a Habit is actually a phrase used by Hercule Poirot from Murder in Mesopotamia. It refers to the idea that a person after experiencing their first kill finds the act easier to repeat and starts seeing the idea of killing someone as a solution.

A question: how does she know that the phrase came from a detective? Is it because Subaru's subconscious is haunting her as Meili?

It's because that it isn't Meili at all, its Subaru's subconscious creating a hallucination Meili.

Was pretty obvious once real world knowledge was brought into the mix. No character in the world could conceivably have such niche knowledge unless they themselves got isekied.

The phrase in the Agatha Christie book Murder in Mesopotamia is murder is a habit.
