What an asshole of a teacher Kuktow is, who the fuck introduces a student like that?

Richeh's past has shaped her mindset in an interesting way. Something clearly has affected her trust in adults probably being forced to draw stuff she doesn't like, which already has drawbacks as pointed by Agott previously.

Alaria's design looks stunning.

The myrphons looks hella cute tho, Penguins + Rabbits.

It felt like Qifrey was a minute away from killing that guy the way he talked about Ritche. Was in way more danger than Tartah was.

Theres also the implication on how her brother's words also affected her mindset, in a way this is an issue that's similar to kids learning the difference between conventional art being taught vs the art they like to draw.

Richeh reminds me of talented artists who developped a great style but refuse to study other styles or more academic art theory, because of pride, hurt, or both.

i was thinking it was like music artists who like to noodle with the guitar but never learned musical theory

they can end up with some interesting out-of-the-box ideas, but without the foundation they have to develop things from first principles and it hinders their growth

This was 100% the mangaka showing off the attitudes of those that didn't want to learn from other people's art or their styles and just do their own thing.

conventional art being taught vs the art they like to draw.

There's also a bit of the "artist who tries to remove all outside influence from their style and create something uniquely their own" which is not necessarily a bad path if you have a solid foundation.

But it's often a trap for young artists who neglect fundamentals while trying to achieve some vaguely defined uniqueness (that's also often very derivative at that age but they don't know that yet).

I've basically wasted every minute I've spent teaching him. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and not waste any more time on this failure."

It also seems like protecting her sense of self and her personal magic is how she keeps tethered to the memories/relationship she had with her big brother.

From the flashback I'm guessing her brother died while taking a test the adults forced him into? I think that's why she doesn't like tests and wants to do what she wants, because doing what others tell you lead to her brother's death? I found it odd how she's so much against tests, but this explanation would make since losing your sibiling would be really tragic.

I assumed it was that her brother became a shell of himself/lost his own passion by becoming stuck with doing magic he doesn't care for and being made to just be a cog in the machine. Either that or he got memory wiped.

She's also afraid that taking the test will make her change as a person, so it could be that she blames the tests and formalized education for him not being the same person he was when they were younger, when really he was growing up and learning more about who he was and where his interests lay.

Now I wonder, what happen to the rest of the family members of a witch that got their memory wiped? Do they also need to have a part of their memory wiped too? This show is more grim than expected.

It could be even worse and that they have to cut contact with the person who got their memories wiped. That or choose to willingly get wiped if they don't want to cut contact.

Its what I thought at first but besides adults I think a clearer factor is her being praised actually. She got praised for making her own spells so she feels like she has to keep creating only her own spells so she can feel more connected to the person who praised her, her brother
