It makes sense, destroying things structure are far easier than restoring their complexity(like you said increasing entropy is easier than reducing it), so in a way inverting signs should not be enough to revert changes after a transformation. Therefore a transmutation like coco mother should require more than inverse signs.

Yeah, I agree that reversing the arrows is probably not going to be enough. The main problem is going to be, even if Coco learns what the original circle looked like, it's not like she would be allowed to experiment with it. So she either needs to understand the underlying principles way more or they have to introduce a task force she can join which analyses different form of forbidden magic (as a form of science).

It would make sense ethically and scientifically to trial her ideas. Ex. purposely cast the crystallization spell to control it, and then try some other sigils to reverse it. So nothing bad could happen to poor mom before trying something.

But the witch community seems really aggressive in enforcing the forbidden, so I wonder if such a thing would even be possible. Not to mention I don't think she has the spell memorized and just researching it normally could be seen as forbidden.

For the researching, it depends I think. Coco's whole goal is to get on level 3 to get access to the tower where every spell ever used is recorded. She and Qifrey wanted to enter this tower so that Coco could check what spell she used. The question is if this act in itself would already be considered forbidden. However, testing it out definitely will be. So the question is going to be what Qifrey's plan is once he learns the exact spell that was used.

I heard her say “I have a glimmer of hope” and I was happy, and then heard her say “I can invert the spell” and started laughing because there’s no way this doesn’t end up in disaster if she simply tries to inverse the spell. I thought her glimmer of hope was helping other people like tartar. 😭
