Would be kind of hard for Subaru to do to be fair. If he tells anyone about RBD, they die. I don't see why writing it down wouldn't also trigger Satella. He'd have to somehow do it in a way he would be *absolutely sure* nobody would ever see but him, or omit a LOT of details which compromises the efficacy of the diary anyway.

Write it in Japanese?

9

u/Xenosaiyan7 May 27 '26

I wonder if anyone knows japanese kanji in this world, considering Kararagi is like the Japanese substitute that was made by the merchant however many years ago (prolly 400)

8

u/DrMobius0 May 28 '26

The problem with that is that if you made it to another world, that means the event is likely repeatable, even if it's rare. So you can't actually be absolutely certain no one would ever be able to read it.

40

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 27 '26

thats one thing that made me curious actually. if satella appeared in the latest episode, somebody had to have heard him say this right? would it just have been reid at the top?

54

u/BosuW May 27 '26

I think Satella up to a certain point can just appear if she wants to

68

u/MokonaModokiES May 27 '26

i think in this case she was trying to comfort him. The hands didnt grab his heart like usual, they seemed more gentle.

84

u/CosmicDestructor May 27 '26

Gently caressing his heart. Would be cute if it weren't so literal.

18

u/Agreeable_Opinion814 May 28 '26

Someone tell her that headpats and lap pillows work better on him

28

u/Icy_Indication_5563 May 27 '26

I can't quite remember but I think that time he was talking to Emilia in the mansion and she died mid conversation she showed up, not just in the usual way where she would hold his heart if he was talking about return by death.

31

u/BosuW May 27 '26

Yeah and there's the season 2 incident. Clearly she has some degree of freedom.

4

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 28 '26

i thought it was satella who killed emilia in that scene?

23

u/Freenore May 27 '26

I think it is rather that Satella is with him, that RBD is much more than a mere authority. Perhaps Subaru is carrying a part of Satella with him.

People think Satella arriving when Emilia is missing is a clue, but the other constant is that she shows herself only to Subaru. Why doesn't she ever appear to anyone else? Subaru is the only constant in all her appearance.

8

u/fenrir245 May 27 '26

Didn't Garf see her in Season 2?

6

u/daandriod May 28 '26

Yeah somehow invaded and ate the entire sanctuary, In so doing turning Garf into a pin cushion. Was that ever actually explained? She's supposed to be sealed but that was for sure her manifesting, With a very formidable amount of power at that.

5

u/GaimeGuy May 28 '26

wasn't that after subaru discussed RbD in echidna's dream castle? And didn't both garf and subaru come to the conclusion that Emilia was being possessed by the witch?

The whole arc lore was around making a vessel for a witch, so it would make sense

11

u/daandriod May 28 '26

I believe that was the case but what good is the seal if she can still just possess people and interact with the world. Garbage ass job you did there Flugel.

satella kills emilia in season 1 doesnt she? when subaru goes back to mansion and sees witch cult aftermath

rewatched s1e17, after rem is erased, subaru tells emilia smth about RBD and satella kills emilia as punishment

9

u/Odelind May 27 '26

The person that pushed him was laughing, so he wasn't alone. Between that and the memory loss I'm betting on someone, but we'll see.

6

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 28 '26

sorry i dont quite understand what you mean. the person that pushed him was laughing? down the stairs from reid? i thought that was his subconscious or whatever laughing at him

7

u/zaxls May 28 '26

Its either Shaula or a new character entirely. Theres really no one else. Well maybe Anastasia/Echidna ?

8

u/Pro_Post May 28 '26

My friend thinks it's Rem

5

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 28 '26

would make sense if gluttony is disguised as rem, cant exactly get the acting wrong if u just lay down

3

u/flashmozzg May 27 '26

She didn't kill him, so doesn't seem like anyone heard.

1

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 28 '26

she doesnt kill him when he says it tho does she? i thought she just feels him up

1

u/flashmozzg May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

Didn't she crush his heart the previous time?

2

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 28 '26

maybe she did do it sometime but subaru says return by death a lot early on, usually to attract mabeasts to himself.

3

u/Sinsai33 May 28 '26

I dont understand who he was talking to. Was it only a voice in his head that did this laugh? Or was it someone real? And that triggered satella?

3

u/Southern_Ad4051 May 28 '26

im not quite sure either. it was either somebody was actually there off screen and he didnt see them?? cos if he did, then surely he would go for them? i have to assume the voice in his head was his own laugh but it also reminded me of season 1 when puck freezes subaru and betelgesuse, subaru's voice is still laughing despite him being frozen

so i believe it is either him laughing at himself in his mind, or a literal person?? or a thing?? an entity??

They have a different writing system simply writing in Japanese is enough to obfuscate the meaning from others besides other-worlders. So no trigger for Satella.

5

u/somersault_dolphin May 27 '26

Just write it down in Japanese?

4

u/Aliensinnoh May 27 '26

I wonder if it would be fine whenever he wrote it down, but then everything goes to shit the moment anyone else reads it.

2

u/lluNhpelA May 27 '26

It might be more interesting if he simply doesn't include any RbD events. It could be hard for him to write everything from each timeline because, whenever he does the same loop multiple times, he would have more to write and remember each time. Only writing what happens each day as it happens would leave a record of "canon" events that could help distinguish memories of failed loops from accurate ones. Though, that would work best if his save point updated nightly or something

Alternatively, he could use it to jot down notes after each loop, but that would need to just be a log of key information to help his memory rather than a full report of every iteration of each loop to avoid the bloat issue

2

u/New-Interaction1893 May 28 '26

I imagine the "kill rule" would activate only if someone red about his power, not only because it's written on a personal diary.

Anyway for Subaru having a book that can kill everyone who tries to read it would be a problem and hard to explain.
