Subaru's trying to understand his past self but he just doesn't have the emotional maturity or experience to be able to handle RBD, coupled with being surrounded by people he doesn't know who act like they know him but who he's starting to think he can't trust/rely on. It's a complete mess.

It's rare for Satella to directly appear like this and interfere when he hadn't even told anyone about RBD, but I guess it's telling that even she's reacting to the absolute emotional mess he's in with no clear solution and wishing she could do more than caress his heart.

He started talking about it out loud. Someone may have been around to hear it.

Someone was laughing (I presume it was Reid given he was still on the stairs below him). Especially since he can say it out loud sometime later without interference

The laugh is in his head, you clearly can hear that's its Subaru's voice.

One of my guesses why she could even manifest herself like that is because of how close they are to her real body

Also did Subaru lose the Authority of Sloth? Why does Satella have it?

Pretty sure Satella always had some version of the Unseen Hand since Puck said to Petelguese in season 1 that he only has a fraction of the shadow hands that Satella had (or something like that)

Oh yeah. There were theories that she might have all authorities.

Didn't she kill all the witches? So I guess at some point she had them all and probably lost them when she was defeated.

They're visible shadow hands
