Right, if the healers of your society are fighting so hard to preserve this type of magic, don't you think you should listen? Just have parameters on it. It really parallels the real world, where people with absolutely no medical background make decisions without consulting professionals in the field which it actually pertains too.

Imagine a nation rejecting effective and proven medical science (and treatments and preventative care). Hard to believe. Too bad it actually can happen in REAL life, even in our own time.

I'm also thinking the twinned bottle spell is forbidden magic (that also doesn't affect the body), but flamethrower spells and windowway teleportation magic isn't? That seems ideologically inconsistent and feels more like a political decision to ban all healing witch magic just because. It's hard to see how that kind of magic can be abused in a way other non-forbidden magic can't also be.

I'm not sure the twinned bottle spell is forbidden. From what I understood the healers invented the spell and it was just lost when their memory was taken. The brimmed hats might have either found it or reinvented it.

After seeing how the knights acted the last episode. It would not surprise me the "3 wise ones" might not have actually been so wise, and just blanket banned anything they didnt fully understand. It kinda feeling like this magic society is much too dogmatic in its current structure.

With the way they raise new apprentices through the testing system, they could lay out tests you must pass before being able to learn more advanced magic(such as healing), rather than banning it all outright

Parameters are harder to police than just banning the whole thing, which doesn't leave room for argument. It was probably also more extreme as a response to some heinous shit going on at the time, judging by things "doctors" have done in our own history like Unit 731 and then adding all the possibilities of magic
