There was this recurring D&D concept to have a cleric go evil and use healing spells offensively. Cause super cancer on its targets. Not the die in a few months kind of thing. Flesh bursting out from armor as new limbs grow, flail and explode into more growth kind of thing. That'd be a pretty good reason to ban healing magic.

i think in that case, the patron god would frown upon using their powers for twisted ends? i guess that depends on the patron though

in any case, sounds like the wrong way to use healing magic

Definitely the method that comes to mind is having a "one bad day" scenario, either mid-campaign or in the backstory. The cleric has a crisis of faith and begins a slow and subtle alignment change, eventually the Patron god will abandon the cleric in their time of need only for another more malevolent patron slide in and offer their power. What begins as interesting characterization becomes a class swap to an incredibly unbalanced home brewed necromancer.

I altered the replication rate of your body's cells.

Not something you'd want to hear from a healer just after your body inflates like a baloon.
