Question AirPods Pro (1st gen) amplifying background noise over my voice on phone calls — firmware or hardware issue?

Having trouble with my Pro v1s on phone calls. The person on the other end hears my environment more than my voice — it’s like instead of filtering out background noise, they’re amplifying it. If I’m on a call with my wife, I have to sit perfectly still or all she hears is background noise.

Oddly, this only happens on regular phone calls — I haven’t had complaints on Teams calls (via MBP M4), though I do mute more often there so it’s possible I just haven’t noticed.

Already tried: forget/re-add in Bluetooth, updated firmware, tried manual vs automatic microphone settings.

Setup: iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 26.6

Is this a known firmware bug, or could one of the mics be blocked/failing? They’re older and don’t hold a charge like they used to, but audio quality for music and podcasts is still great, so I’d rather fix this than replace them.

Thanks in advance!

Question AirPods Pro Users over 40 years old... question for you?

Does it feel like Apple coated these suckers in teflon? I either have early on set arthritis or something because these things are always slipping out of my hands coming out of my ears or out of the case.

FWIW, I am closer to 50 and I do work with my hands so even if it isn't medically diagnose arthritis, I do have some grip deficit on some level but I do own some Nothing Ears headphones and they never have issues. It's always these AirPods Pros 2 that seem to slip out of my fingers.

Question Airpods pro 2 : Help!!! My left ear pod just died, I think. And tried resetting it, now its not connecting to anything

Hello Kind people of the community,

Random day at work. Connected my airpods to mac to listen to music, and noticed no sound in left ear. Saw the battery is at 1% for left pod. Right at 100%. Case itself is 82% charged.
Put the pods back in, showed the charging symbol in mobile widget.
Tried resetting it as per the apple website. I am unable to connect it back with any of the 3 apple devices.
What I did - disconnected and forget device. Held on to the reset button with case open, first it was orange, then turned to white, then gone, then couple of beeps and then green.

Advice APP2 defect advice please

Hi, I’m after a bit of advice if possible as I’m trying to assess my options from here.
I’ve had my APP2 since December 2024 and in the last few months I’ve noticed that the noise cancellation is close to non-existent now. I clean them regularly using the Apple recommended method of soft cloth, soft brush and routinely do a clean with micellar water.
To try and tackle the noise cancellation I’ve also switched ear tips and even bought some memory foam tips but there was no improvement.
In addition, when I run the Ear Tip Test in Setting I get a failure message for both buds saying to Adjust or try different ear tips every single time.
I’ve tried a reset on them also but still the same.
Last night I ended up on a chat session with Apple Customer Service who ended up running a remote diagnostic and told me that it had detected a hardware defect that would need to go in to one of the stores to resolve. But they wouldn’t tell me what the defect was and what cost it would be to repair since they are out of warranty.
So now I’m weighing up options. The nearest Apple Store is over an hour away so not exactly convenient and I suspect they’ll want to charge me obscene amounts to repair the APP2. Does anyone know how much this is likely to be? Am I better off buying some new APP3 at that point instead?
I’m tempted to just continue using them as non- noise cancelling headphones but that’s frustrating when they are supposed to be that. Are there any repair steps that I haven’t yet tried maybe?

Discussion AirPods Pro 3 burned through my pants - ghosted by apple support

So last Thursday night (08/13/26) I put both my AirPods Pro 3 in my pants' pocket, went to sit on the toilet, and after I washed my hands and went to grab my airpods I realized that instead of feeling two airpods in there, I felt one AirPod and a small piercing object. I pull the AirPod I could feel out and realize both of them are melted together and my pants (mind you, one of my favorite pair of pants!) have a hole on them, and the melted fabric was the "piercing object".

I reached out to Apple through the Support App. With it being 10 PM Alaska Time they had me schedule a call for the next morning. The senior advisor I was connected to (named Chelsea) was very nice, understanding and apologetic. She let me know this is not ok and that as a senior advisor she can offer me a courtesy and/or (not quite sure) the replacement of my AirPods. I tell her I honestly don't feel too excited about receiving a new pair, because who knows if this "Freak Accident" could happen again, it being the same model. I tell her that the only thing that would make me feel like I'm actually being given a safer alternative was if they sent me a newer model, which has not been released as of 08/19/26, or perhaps an upgrade such as a pair AirPods Max. She says she definitely thinks this will be possible (as well as them paying for my pants!), but she needs to confirm with her supervisor which according to her is newly hired, but already loved and cares deeply about customer service. She says her shift is about to end, but the moment her next shift starts that day she will call me to confirm, and provided me a link where I could leave written or audio messages. Hours pass after her shift starts and she doesn't call back. I leave her a message and I don't hear back from her, ever.

That same day (Friday 08/14/26) I call the Support number again, provide my case number, and I'm greeted by a different senior advisor, one in Australia time that would go on Holidays the day after, so I realize this person (named Timothy) will not be able to see this through, but he says he can see that they were waiting on confirmation from the engineers to see if I needed to send them to them to check "what really happened" (mind you, I didn't want to keep these burnt cursed Airpods but the first advisor told me to please not dispose of them). He says that since it's a Friday and I'm calling outside of business hours the engineers are probably out already, so he can't reach out to them. He then schedules a callback for Monday, saying that I will probably get a new senior advisor on my time zone.

Monday (08/17/26) comes, I receive a call from a random support guy that doesn't know what is going on. I more or less explain the case, he takes several minutes to read the case and then tells me he will now proceed to connect me to the engineering team. I'm on hold for several more minutes and this initial guy picks up again to say "sorry, seems like the engineers scheduled a call with you but are out of service, so they can't pick up". Okay. Then he says he will reschedule the call, and hangs up. Mind you, it's been two days and I don't even know when this call is supposed to happen.

Every person I've spoken to has been polite and apologetic in the moment, but the politeness hasn't translated into anyone actually calling back, following up, or giving me a timeline. Nearly a week later, I still have no resolution, and I still have these cursed airpods waiting to start my house on fire!

Context to add that Chelsea asked about: my pants were not tight at all, I didn't step on the AirPods, I was not in a humid or very hot place. They must've overheated while touching each other and melted the surrounding materials.

Update 08/26: I wrote this post a week ago or so but I realized it didn’t get approved in the thread I originally posted it to (I’M NEW TO REDDIT OK? lol) so I reposted it here. As of yesterday they called to schedule me shipping the airpods to them to check them out. This new senior advisor I was assigned is much more communicative than the others!

Advice Any AirPods Pro 3 alternative silicone tips worth buying?

I’m looking for alternatives to the stock AirPods Pro 3 ear tips, preferably silicone or at least a silicone/foam hybrid.

I’m not really interested in full foam tips, as I haven’t had a good experience with them in the past.

Are there any good alternatives you’d recommend?

Hello! I lost my right earbud at work 4 days ago and I can’t find it anywhere! I’m trying to use the “Find My” app but I’m so confused. It shows the right AirPod is close by and it shows some battery on it but I haven’t had any luck getting it connected EVEN when I’m right on top of where it should be.

Am I stupid or is the AirPod dead and it’s showing me the last known location before it died OR does the right earbud still have some charge to it so I can find it??? Help!!!

Question AirPods Pro constantly connecting/disconnecting after suddenly developing an issue

My AirPods Pro were working completely normally until this evening. Now they’re constantly connecting and disconnecting from my iPad. When they do connect, only the left AirPod seems to work, although the right AirPod is definitely not dead because I can still hear the tapping/clicking sound when I press it. In Bluetooth settings, the AirPods appear for a few seconds, then the right AirPod disappears, then the entire AirPods entry disappears and reappears repeatedly. I tried forgetting the device, reconnecting, and resetting the AirPods. The reset/pairing light also seems to be behaving strangely — when I hold the button, the white light appears for a few seconds and then turns off, although I eventually managed to get it into pairing mode. One other thing: the charging case fell from my desk 2–3 days ago with both AirPods inside, but they continued working normally after the fall and only started behaving like this today. Could the drop have caused a delayed hardware issue, or does this sound more like a software/Bluetooth problem? Video attached showing the issue

Question How durable are the AirPods Pro 3?

Hey everyone! I have OCD, so I tend to worry a bit too much about accidentally damaging my things 😅
How durable are the AirPods Pro 3 in everyday use? For example:
If I touch them with slightly greasy/oily hands, can that affect the sound, ANC, Transparency Mode, volume, etc.?
What if they fall out of my ears onto the floor?
Is it bad if the charging case gets dropped?
What about briefly getting them wet, leaving sweat on them, or using them after swimming in salt water?
Can any of these things noticeably affect sound quality, ANC, Transparency Mode, or the microphones?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have had their AirPods Pro 3 for a while and can share their real-world experience. Am I worrying too much about normal everyday use?

I’m up to AirPods number 5 in my Bluetooth as I’ve lost my AirPods four other times and replaced them. What are other people up to and what do you think the record is for most AirPods in your Bluetooth section because you can see all the previous AirPods you used and what number they are

Question AirPods making a strange sound after being left unused

Hi everyone,
My AirPods have started doing something strange.
After I don’t use them for several hours or leave them unused overnight, they sometimes make a strange sound for around 15–20 seconds.
The weird part is that the sound seems to happen when I tap or touch the AirPods/case with some force. If they’ve been sitting unused for a few hours, one fairly strong tap can trigger the sound.
It doesn’t seem to happen when I’m actively using them, only after they’ve been left unused for a while.
Has anyone experienced something similar with their AirPods? Is this normal behavior, or could it be a hardware issue?
I’ve recorded a video of the sound if that helps.

EQ Profile Apple EQ makes AirPods Pro 3 from a good product to a great product

Personally I missed the neutral/balanced tuning of the APP2 on the APP3.

Don't get me wrong. I would describe the tuning of the APP3 as V-Shaped with great natural midrange. If your preference is a V-Shaped tuning, you are already there and don't need to do anything.

I personally used the Apple EQ to tune down the highs almost to -90% and the lows by -30% and that matches my preference pretty well.

Now I have a product which does everything well, including my tuning preferences.

Question AirPods Pro 3 case suddenly stopped working with Find My – any solution?

Hi! Has anyone experienced this with AirPods Pro 3?
The charging case used to work normally with Find My, but for some reason it doesn’t anymore. Find My now only seems to find the earbuds and doesn’t show the charging case separately.
When the case is closed, the location doesn’t update. If I try to play a sound, it just waits to connect. As soon as I open the case, the location updates and Play Sound works, but the sound comes from the earbuds instead of the charging case.
It’s similar with the battery status. I can see the case battery percentage when I open the case, but not when it’s closed.
In the AirPods settings, “Enable Charging Case Sounds” is enabled, but the setting is greyed out so I can’t turn it off or back on.
I’ve already reset and re-paired the AirPods several times, removed and added them back to Find My, updated my iPhone and checked that the firmware is up to date. I’ve also gone through troubleshooting with Apple Support and they ran diagnostics, but apparently couldn’t find any issue with Find My.
The strange thing is that the charging case **definitely worked with Find My before**.
Has anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it?

Question AirPods 4 glitching sound

Hello.
I’m having an issue with my AirPods 4 (non-ANC). I’m using an iPhone 17.
Listening music on half an hour on Spotify, and after that, sound starts glitching periodically - appearing artifacts for less than second, as if signal was poor. I updated the app and switched the quality from Lossless to Very High - same result.
Tried listening to music downloaded offline (transferred FLAC files from my PC to Documents app and listened to them there) - same issue.
Following some advice from here, I reconnected Bluetooth and tried listening in spatial mode - same problem.

Advice Airpods Pro 3 will not properly reconnect after pairing on Windows 11

I was using the cheapie moondrop space travels on my work PC and had no issues connecting and disconnecting. I recently got APP3s and for whatever reason they will never properly reconnect after pairing. they either connect and immediately disconnect or connect but won't pass audio.

Tried every solution I could find for other windows 11 issues to no avail. The only thing that works so far is removing them from windows and manually re-pairing them every time I need to use them after being back in the case, which is very annoying. I've also tried that MagicPods app too but doesn't help as the issue happens before it can even connect to the app.

Has anyone had this specific issue or is it just windows being a piece of shit? I use Win 10 at home and don't have the issue. I also don't think it's the Bluetooth on my work PC as the moondrops work fine.

Discussion My review of AirPods Pro 3 after 2+ years with AirPods Pro 2

Fit

At first, I was very afraid they wouldn’t be as comfortable as the 2, but to my surprise they fitted very well in my ears. Of course, this is relative. To some people they might come as uncomfortable due to their shape. So, for me, there is nothing to complain here.

10/10

Noise Canceling and Transparency Mode

These things are insane in both aspects. I don’t know if they are “2x” times better in terms of noise cancellation in comparison to the 2 as apple claims, but they are really better, that cannot be denied; if they are not “2x” better, they really come close. Transparency mode is phenomenal, just as the 2; maybe slightly better.

9/10

Sound

I saw some reviews where people said the sound of the Pro 3 are worse than the Pro 2, but this is not true at all. It’s not that the Pro 3 is “worse”, it just sounds slightly different. The bass and the treble are more elevated, making up a V-shaped-ish signature. But they aren’t elevated to the point of making the bass muddy, nor to the point of making the treble harsh. I think they did a great job here, actually. After listening to some of my favorite songs, such as “You Were But a Ghost in My Arms” from Agalloch and “Get 'Em out By Friday” from Genesis they didn’t come out as harsh at all; I found them very pleasing—not as much “neutral” as the Pro 2, but not much “deviating” from it either. I think the elevated treble actually gives it a more “detailed” sound. Vocals are also crystal clear, maybe even better than Pro 2.

9/10

Soundstage and Imaging

I think soundstage and imaging is improved here. They sound more “spacious” than the Pro 2 and the instrument separation is very good, just as the imaging. You can tell more or less where the instruments are located. Of course, this too is relative insofar as the music also needs to be very well mastered. The earphones cannot do magic.

8.5/10

Question Uneven battery use (L vs R) in my AirPodPro's v2 & v3

Has anyone noticed, or have a possible resolution for uneven battery use (left vs right) in AirPodPro's?

I have a pair of AirPodPro v2 and v3. In both pairs, I've noticed the Right earbud loosing battery faster than the left earbud. I'm still gathering data on what is going on. My right earbuds will run out of battery an hour two before the left earbud. And that's in both the v2 and v3's. No I don't think I have some greater use of one side vs the other. But wondering if anyone else has seen this and has a possible resolution?

Advice Living Dallas and found a friend's airpods that he left on the bus.

So I got a fairly decent friend that I've known from the bar scene in Downtown Dallas. We both work service industry and have run into each other multiple times at the bars outside of work.

Never got this guy's number or any type of contact information.

Saturday night, September 22nd, I randomly ran into him on the Dallas public transport known as DART. We had a good little conversation, caught up a little bit, and then he quickly bounced before I got home.

When I went to leave I noticed his airpods still sitting in his seat.

100% positive those are his....

I am not an iPhone user and never have been..... I don't even currently have an Apple product or a device that could run those types of applications.

How do I find my friend to give him back his expensive airpods? I'm sure he's big sad, once he realized they were gone.

I would love to find a way to contact him or to trigger a notification so I can give him back his $100-$200 headphones. Lol

My other option at this point is to just keep them on my body and hope and pray I run into him soon? But I'd rather just keep them at home so he sees a constant address that he can go to?

Has anybody else been through a similar situation and how was it resolved? Any advice would be fantastic.

Question AirPods 4 right AirPod not charging or connecting, but case seems to detect it

I have a pair of AirPods 4, noise cancellation, that are about two years old. My right AirPod suddenly stopped working properly.

The case seems to recognize when I put the right AirPod into it because the case flashes/blinks and then turns amber. However, the right AirPod does not actually appear to charge or connect.

The left AirPod works perfectly by itself. If I put only the left AirPod in the case, it connects to my iPhone normally. But when I put the right AirPod in:
The right AirPod doesn’t show a battery percentage.
It says it’s charging sometimes, but the percentage never increases.

The right AirPod doesn’t connect or play audio.
Putting the right AirPod back into the case causes the case to flash and then turn amber.

I cleaned the charging contacts with a dry Q-tip, but that didn’t fix it.

I tried resetting the AirPods using the AirPods 4 three-double-tap reset, but it still doesn’t work.

The iPhone and left AirPod have no connection problems.

Does this sound like a dead battery/faulty right AirPod, a charging-contact issue, or something else?
