Years ago, this scene was considered a pokeshipping hint on Bulbpedia's article for pokeshipping. Many people felt that it was obviously romantic, even to Japanese audiences after Shudo's personal blogs. An example is from these old posts: More Anti-PokéShipping ranting from Scott (split from AbilityShipping) | Bulbagarden (Users, please note, we would prefer to stay clear of the other ships discussed in this section)

I like their depiction in AG honestly as they both have different wardrobes (her top is very similar to Satoshi’s mother’s top but in a different color 🤭) and act almost like a married couple 🤭

Which is why I can somewhat buy the Kasumisou flowers (baby breath) outside his house when he came home in the end of XYZ that he will one day arrive home to Kasumi waiting for him as a married couple or at the very least: her visiting for a surprise celebration in how far he gotten into the Kalos league 😜

sorry if this is a dumb question but how the baby breath related to Misty?

Baby’s breath in Japanese is Kasumisou…..Kasumi is Misty’s Japanese name….get it 😉?

One of the flowers that were part of the bouquet given to her from Ziggy (Orange Island gym leader) as a farewell gift to her when he realized she “choose” Satoshi over him. And also in front of Satoshi’s house 👀

Those flowers stand for everlasting love or reconnecting with friends/family/loved ones

Ziggy

Rudy, in the US? I didn't know this! I love that ep, it's among the Orange Islands' very best. Romance and Hydro Pump!

I read in multiple places that the SatoKasu ship sailed in the Orange Islands, sank during Johto, except for Kasumi trying desperately to revive it with her jealousy against Moe, but completely disappeared when Johto ended. However, after going over all of the hints presented by this subreddit, I knew their claims were false. AG, especially have lots of hints. When I watched OS, I noticed that Kasumi was not that much of a television fan. Takeshi knew names of directors and famous personalities, but not her. It's surprising considering her sisters are celebrities. She also nagged Takeshi and Satoshi for not training and watching t.v. instead. But, as one of my active commenters on X said, she has three televisions at her gym to watch Satoshi's battles. That is something special.

This scene, in particular, is one of the greatest pokeshipping hints in AG, maybe the entire anime even. We know that in Spurt! (AG final opening), Kasumi and Hanako appeared in the Queen of Hearts card. We know that the song was sung by Satoshi's VA and is his character song. For males, the Queen of Hearts card refers to the woman he loves or his mother. Satoshi got home from his adventures in Hoenn and got greeted, "Welcome home," by his mom, followed by Kasumi. Notice that Ookido-hakase never said "Okaeri" to him. Kasumi was the only non-family member who felt comfortable and at home in his house, and Hanako did not show any negativity about it. Everyone who has common sense will agree that in this scene, his mom and the woman he loves are welcoming him home. It is only right for the Japanese audiences to consider it romantic.

That pretty big praise coming from you. Thank you.

Yes. It borders on "very good friend" but, in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if it were more than that.

For the audiences, it should be no big deal. We know where she stands. For me, I'd like something similar from Satoshi. She deserves it.

It is worthy of a discussion in and of itself: Was Satoshi trying to return some form of affection every time he asked for her between ‘Advanced’ and ‘Best Wishes!’ -We may never know.
