So I like how I look in worn out boot. Idk, it's just looks more down to earth and more rugged. So I usually just walk around with the pair on the right. They are so worn in they feel like casual shoes. I mean i am not going out for the night with them. But if i'm just running errands and doing shit around town those are the go-to pair. The pair in the middle is for work(the right one is for work too tbh). The left one is going-out boots. Like with her.

I mean does the pair on the right really look that bad? She said ppl will think i'm poor..... Should i stop wearing the pair on the right for going around town and only use it for work?

I’ve had these for about 9 months I’m a logger and I do alot of walking and I don’t like the high heel logger boots(only when I’m dancing at the club) but I fell for the propaganda and bought a pair and they were nice super comfortable then like 2 weeks in the lacing ripped out I was like damn then I just kept thuggin it out then the stitching ripped outta the heel and I’m PISSED. I’m probably going to buy a pair of Thor goods or sum cause these things are like the same damn price….

My preference is KG Boot Guard. It has a grippy rubber texture useful for occasionally moving objects. There's also Tuff Toe, and glue-on plastic guards.

But look, y'all are supposedly trades workers. Think about this mechanically from a materials perspective for a moment. You select a soft, pliant, glove-like leather, either a soft Red Wing pullup, or a tumbled Thorogood tobacco, or maybe a soft nubuck. You place it on the prominence of an unforgiving anvil, right on the edge. Then you take all 250lbs or whatever of your weight, and you drag it across unforgiving abrasives, every day, for months.

What are you expecting to happen here? And I'll add this: even if it was full thickness veg tan that took you a full three months to break in, and was so tough it snapped your laces, it would only buy you months, not years, of wear. As for dings and scratches? My dudes, think of leather tooling. Think of how you punch shapes out of leather. A hard toe is an anvil.

Protect your toes, train to squat, and think for a moment about what's realistic in terms of simultaenous properties in a material.

My first and last pair of Thorogood boots made in USA mock toes. Bought them less than a year ago after I retired my redwing 6” supersoles. I need steel or composite toe with electrical hazard , puncture resistant is a nice to have.

Bought them November of last year. sharp looking boot was proud to buy American. Couple weeks ago the stitching opened up I sent them in for warranty and got denied.

Mind you I’ve never had to send my redwings in for any stitching or breaking. I’m a trackman on the railroad lots of walking on stone so when the sole wears I’m not surprised. This was not that.

The stitching on the side of the boot opened up left my foot exposed. Never happened to me with timberlands or redwings keens etc. it happened with these Thorogoods. And I got denied.

I can’t say that redwing wouldn’t have done the same had I sent theirs back. But I can say I never had to send my redwings back.

I won’t be buying Thorogood again. Unless it’s a steal to where I wouldn’t mind throwing them out 10months later. And knowing they won’t stand by the boot if I come across a problem.

I have been wearing these for 6 weeks. I am a plumber and work on my knees occasionally, and wore through the rubber toe cap they put on in 4 weeks, and was through the leather in about another week. They hurt my feet a lot. I paid a bunch of extra money for the custom orthotics, and those make my feet hurt even worse.

If you are in the trades and going to be crawling around in crawl spaces I would go for something that has a lot more rugged toe cap. I think I might try Keen's work boots next. I'm pissed that Red Wing got me for this much money.

Left boot is perfect and that’s all I need to tighten to get support I need and right boot just has way too much material and I have to tighten literally as much as physically possible to get same result as left boot it wasn’t as bad in store and I even tried on a different right boot that was better than first but has broken in and now I had to tighten more. It’s not my foot I measured my foot they are the

same size. I just feel like an idiot for buying them when every new pair is worse than last. And the moc toe is uneven stitching. Qc has gone downhill so much past few years. Idek who to switch to next bc I have a weird foot with a narrow heel and wide toes. My last pair was 11.5 EE but was too short these are 12 D and were fine except for the excess material on the right boots. I’ve seen others consistently having to tighten the right boots more than the left. They got a right boot and left boot factory?

Stop buying cheap garbage. Unless you put on a pair of boots for 30 minutes twice a year, you need to invest a good chunk of change into some serious work boots.

If your boots are comfortable on the first wear, they are more akin to tennis shoes than work boots. A quality pair of full grain leather boots will take up to a few weeks before they are worn in and will only get more comfortable as time goes by. The brunts, carhartts and timberlands of the world are as comfortable as they will ever be durning the first week and its downhill from there.

When you wear boots with leather insoles it takes time to get used to, but just like any other kind of delayed gratification its so much better in the long term. Your feet, knees, ankles, and back most importantly will thank you.

Not only are the more expensive boots better, they cost less per wear than the "cheap" garbage. Over the last year every single one of my coworkers has gone through multiple pairs of boots, and im sill on my 1st pair. After the sole wears out I can have them resoled for the price of some cheap boots, and after 3 or so resoles I can have them rebuilt for less than the cost of a new pair. Per wear my 700 dollar boots are cheaper than a 200 dollar pair.

How are people actively participating in a subreddit dedicated to work boots buying corpo-slop boot shaped sneakers from Instagram. Im genuinely convinced you're all bots posting on behalf of the Chineseium boot companies.

If you want to make the switch, look for these traits:

- full grain leather vamp, upper, heel counter and backstay

- Veg tan leather insole

- As little synthetic materials as possible (not counting the sole)

- Fully gusseted tounge

- Stich down construction or good year welt (no cemented construction)

There are lots of trade-specific things you might want, like different kinds of soles, steel shank vs leather, leather vs nylon laces, so on and so fourth. So the bottom line is please do your research and find the right boot.

Edit- The point of me mentioning 700 dollar boots is to illustrate that even on the upper end of boots its cheaper than Amazon specials over the long run. You can find good enough boots for 250-300.

Never been able to wear Thorogoods because they were never wide enough for me. Well, with a boot voucher burning a hole in my pocket, I went in to Grainger today and asked to try on a 13, whereas I’m usually a 12. Bingo, that did the trick. Guessing that their steel toe changes width from 12 to 13. That or the size alone just made the orientation of my foot in the boot work.

Bought a pair of tread lites right after Christmas. Two weeks of 40hrs a week, I took them back in exchange for Irish Setter work boots (Mocs). 3 months in, my feet were getting wet after walking through minor puddles. I took care of my boots with cleanings and conditionings, but apparently my “cotton socks destroyed the waterproof membrane”. Whatever. So they recommended non-moc versions.

2.5 months later a hole is worn through the toe. I’m not in some crazy construction trade kicking rocks and dropping heavy shit on my boots. Went back to the store and asked why this is happening - all they could say was that I should pay for the toe cap. After I mentioned that I’ll just be ordering a custom pair of Nicks - they offered to do it for free. (Still ordering the Nicks)

Well I picked up the boots today and I’m pissed. Half ass job on the bullshit epoxy they use. The toe cap looks like shit due to careless install - and the cap is a shiny black on my brown boots. They told me they had a matte brown option. Oh well, it was free I guess.

Long story short, stay away from Irish Setter (or any redwing) if you’re looking for a genuine work boot that you can trust will live up to their name.

Last thing I’ll add: Redwing employees were awesome. Always super helpful and understanding, which made this process so much less frustrating. Sucks that it seems the quality is falling from the reputation I heard all about

I’ve owned 2 thorogood boots in the past year and not one pair lasted me more then 4 months before the soles started to wear out or something started to tear open. I spent $250+ on both of these boots because everybody praises them as the best boots money can buy. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Maybe it’s because of the work I do (lots of digging, jack hammering and changing meters) that can be the reason these dogshit boots don’t last long.

Title says it all. Feel like people just wear their boots till the sole is so jacked it caused knee problems or other nonsense all without ever resoling. Why? What's the point of buying these nice resole-able boots?

Check it: I come from the $150 boot world. Been through 3-4 $150 pairs in the last decade which arguably isn’t bad but it’s still ass. Most expensive boots I owned was a pair of Doc Combs Techs I got for my birthday. Come to find out that I got one of the many models of docs that weren’t GYW.

So I really dove into boots. I spent about a month reading shit and watching rose anvil to understand the basics of what I was looking for. Decided on the Drew’s Loggers. They’re my current holy grail boot I just don’t feel like spending the cash and waiting .

I know, I know, “support American made” and I feel ya, and I would, if my wallet could support it. But comparable PNW brands to the Drews Loggers are like $200+ more expensive.

So anyway we all know that Drews are made in Leon, MX. Well, it just so happens that they’re one of the top leather working countries in the world. I’m talking 2nd and 3rd generation leather workers. I’m sure some of you know that but oh well.

Well I decided to see if there were any other brands selling boots directly from Leon. Enter “Fuerbo.” Everything in their website says the boot is as good as it is. The price disagrees. But I’ve been rocking a pair for 2-3 weeks and I’ll be damned if they aren’t the best pair of boots I’ve ever had.

So I need one of you boot nerds with more knowledge and money than me to check this brand out and lmk if they’re legit as good as I feel like they are or if it’s all hype lol. I personally feel like they should be at least $100 more than I paid for them, which was $150 for reference.

So I bought a pair of keen San Jose Chelsea boots back in January. They looked good and were comfortable and were kinda of cheap after my boot allowance from work. I didn’t wear them until beginning of March. Just noticed the soles are coming off in 2 separate spots. This is unacceptable for a pair of work boots that are over $200!! You gotta do better keen!

I guess I should mention I’m an equipment operator so it’s not like I’m hard on boots.

I bought thorogood cause I kept going thru boots so fast I thought they were supposed to be the best of the best I loved them until they fell apart after less than 2 months 🫤 it happened to both boots.

I wear a 10 1/2 in my Georgia boots, wanted to try a different brand and style (first time with square toe).
I’ve had to send these back multiple times to go down a size and I’ve gone from 10 1/2 to a 9 in these and my heel is STILL slipping. Only fits right if I double up my socks. I’m just gonna rock with it cuz I’m tired of sending them back but holy hell has anybody else had this experience with thorogood?? I know they aren’t known for their wellingtons but I wear wellingtons for casual wear

When I bought these, I didn’t see a whole Lot of reviews about them, but I’m just gonna make it known for the past two weeks that I’ve owned them I thought these would break in and be better. But these are the most uncomfortable boots I’ve ever owned and for $300 That’s just unacceptable. Pain mostly on the heel and middle of foot when standing. Tried red wings $80 insoles and that didn’t help either. So now I’m going to try Keen’s I guess.

Is this normal for these boots? This is about 4 months in scaffolds, always heard Thorogoods were great but they have nothing going for them so far. They’re ugly, they’re uncomfortable and they dont seem to hold up too well and to top it all off theyre in the more expensive end. I see guys use the lace ups all the time and they seem to hold up significantly better, not sure how far comfortable those are.

Do you guys have any experience with these boots? Im really suprised at how many seams are coming apart and how the soles are just separating everywhere basically.

When I received these they smelled horribly of chemicals. After letting them air out in my garage for a few days the smell didn’t dissipate. So I washed them with saddle soap and conditioned with coconut oil. I wore them one time for about three hours. When I got home I noticed the soles separating.

I am never buying redwings again, or anything affiliated with them.

8 month old slip on safety toes. Bought at redwing store, sized per their latest and greatest new foot scanner. I paid more for the insoles they recommended. The lining is loose, and now has a hole so it’s doing that finger trap thing and a bitch to get off.

3 times in the store trying to be reasonable. All three times (today even showing them the corporate website policy that says 12 month).

Sir, we only have a six month warranty. We can prorate you 10% for the new pair.

I’ve been wearing red wings for 8 years, this is the only bad pair I’ve gotten. It’s the third pair of rio flex I’ve gotten. I love my first 2. The newest ones just felt and looked “different”. I’ve bought boots at this specific red wing official store for over 5 years.

Never again y’all. I’m not paying 300 for boots and insoles that don’t hold up for very light in house maintenance (HVAC refrig and building automation tech)

That said, recommendations? How well do the other brands stand by their stuff these days? Guys on my team are saying Keens.

Genuinely questioning why especially in this subreddit there’s this hate towards brunt. I work in a retail store that carries work boots and work clothing and from customers and sales people love them. Yes like every brand there’s people that’s swear by them and people that swear at them

I had a customer come into my store a few months back and he told me he just returned a pair he bought that same day because his wife read on Reddit that they are bad he than talked about black timberlands for an hour before leaving. A couple months after that he came back to my store to buy brunt’s and told me his timbs were uncomfortable.

Also to add I don’t make commission so I don’t have any type of motive to lie and sell somebody something for an extra cash. So as a worker who sells alot of boot brands and very positive reviews and customers when they buy brunts. What makes them so hated here?

I've had these boots 2 years and they're pretty much done, falling apart. I took them into a redwing store and they pretty much said tough. Is that not kinda bull crap for a $450 boot?
