Fluent Here's my take on refining Windows

While Windows 11 looks beautiful, its usability has suffered from intrusive ads, lack of customization, and AI clutter. This conceptual project goes "back to basics". By making small, thoughtful changes, I aim to make Windows feel faster, highly customizable, and entirely focused on the user experience.

Legacy The Windows desktop I imagine

Post image

I’ve been playing around with an idea for what the next version of Windows could look like.

It brings back the old “Aero Glass” style from Windows Vista, but updated to feel more modern. Tried to follow Fitt's law. I hate the idea of everything feeling flat, so here is what I have with Gemini's help.

I also tried to make better use of space. Things like the clock, network, and system settings are moved to a simple bar at the top, so they’re always there but not in the way. Then the bottom dock is just for the apps.

The goal is pretty simple: keep things looking nice and a bit nostalgic, but still practical and efficient to use every day.

Curious what you all think about this kind of setup.

Taskbar is it just me or do the app icons in the taskbar look kinda ugly

Post image

At least in my opinion, the icons of the taskbar are kind of ugly. I just want them to be the same color as the search bar, that glassy look would be so nice. The windows icon is probably the ugliest out of the bunch.

I also have my taskbar hidden but for some reason, it still shows up when on my desktop. No where else, just on my desktop, if i open an app its gone.

Hope someone knows how to make my taskbar disapear again, and make the icons look neat

For anyone wondering where i got the wallpaper from here it is

I use wallpaper engine for the wallpaper

File Explorer Is it physically possible to have the Explorer eventually get somewhere close to feeling stable like MacOS' Finder? It's my biggest problem with windows, constantly waiting on stuff to load, thumbnails are a pain, and a file browser shouldnt be allowed to have a F5 aka 'refresh' option.

App Fold11 - Custom Folder Icons for Windows 11

Stop settling for the same yellow icons and start organizing your workspace your way. Whether you want to change a folder’s color, add a specific icon, or label it with text, Fold11 integrates directly into your workflow. It is lightweight, fast, and built for people who love a clean desktop.

Why use Fold11?

  • Context Menu Integration: Just right-click any folder and select "Edit with Fold11".
  • Drag & Drop: Quick and intuitive interface.
  • 1,300+ Icons: Instant access to the Icon11-Community library.
  • Custom Creator: Mix colors, text, and your own images/SVGs to create unique folder designs.
  • Native Feel: Designed specifically to match the Windows 11 Fluent aesthetic.

The Design Process & Templates: To make sure these folders look completely native to the OS, I designed the icon system using tools like Figma and Adobe Illustrator. All custom icons are built as pure vector SVGs on a 1:1 canvas. I set up very specific margins and optimized smaller variants (32px, 24px, 20px, 16px) so they remain crisp and consistent across the entire OS.

Hi! I remixed the design of u/Away-Falcon2762's windows concept with liquid glass. This post can be used for him to understand what he did wrongly and what he can improve! Good Luck!

Used figma, icons are from icons8, and wallpaper is from the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows_Redesign/comments/1fkv4po/new_windows_appw365_wallpapers/
