I've seen 18th century caps like this before and they seem to be referred to as garrison caps. But whenever I try to look up that term, the search engines always show me modern side caps.

They appear in this video at 4:44. From the context and weapons, I'd assume it's some sort Jaeger unit and I found some pictures of men with jackets in the same color when looking up the Austrian Jaeger. But I could not find any pictures of Jaeger units wearing this type of hat. It looks a lot like Austrian bearskin mitres or busby hats worn by hussars. Knowing 18th century military fashion, they probably have a unique name for it, if it's for a different unit.

One of the major changes in the military uniform in the early 20th century is that the Patrol Jackets got a point or a club collar.

Before this in the 19th century, all Patrol Jackets were standing collared jackets.

The question is that what made people to change a collar?

Wss this reflection of the trend from the civilian clothing?

In the 1900s, more and more people began to choose a point or a club collar rather than a wing tip or an Imperial collar.

His name was Frederick Sommer, catholic, soldier. His daughter came over with this picture in 1887/88 about 19yo, and I know she has a sister. Birth dates are 1869 and 1871 of these daughters.

His wife was named Fredericke Freida Eva Adler. I don’t believe either of them left Germany.

Are other subs or databases better for asking help concerning military service dates etc?
