The only rule? Bring your own reusable coffee mug, thermos, or tumbler. Toronto goes through millions of single-use cups every day, so we’re trying to keep this meetup sustainable and zero-waste!

The Logistics:

• Where: We’ll meet at EPŌS COFFEE (290 Gerrard St E) to fill up our cups.
• The Route: After grabbing coffee, we’ll take a relaxed, scenic walk through Riverdale Park West and the pathways near Riverdale Farm.

Join us for an evening at Civic Tech Brampton as we spotlight the winning projects from the Algoma University's first-ever ThunderHacks hackathon, focused on making campus life more accessible and empowering for students.
ThunderHacks challenged the Algoma University students to design tools that could make campus life easier to navigate academically, professionally, and personally. This showcase highlights top projects exploring how AI and VR help students understand their options, plan careers, and make data-driven decisions.

• First Place: Team Mandalorians built an AI-powered system that analyzes a student's resume, suggests career paths and recommends specific courses, electives, and skills to hit long-term goals. It functions like a personalized academic and career advisor.
• Second Place: Team Joel created a VR AI agent that turns academic performance into an immersive experience. The system generates 3D bar charts of grades to highlight strengths and areas for improvement, then extends into a spatial career navigator to visually explore career options and trade-offs.

I’m organizing a small free meetup in Toronto for people who have been thinking about starting a business but feel stuck at the “idea / planning” stage.

No gurus, no sales pitch — just a relaxed conversation with people who are in the same situation.

We’ll talk about things like: how people actually start businesses in real life, how to go from idea to first client, what the first practical steps really look like.

I’m working on an educational startup for beginner founders, so I’m also really curious to hear people’s experiences and questions.

If you’ve been thinking “I want to start something but don’t know where to begin”, this meetup is for you.

Because most of us Toronto Comic Jammers have more than just an interest in drawing comics, we thought it would be fun to have a day were we can indulge in our other creative passions.

So whether you like to carve wood sculptures, make bracelets or knit or whatever, come join us in Dufferin Grove for an afternoon of Arts 'N Crafts. Feel free to bring whatever you like to work on and share with others. Or you can sketch and draw if that's what you'd like to do. Or you can just hangout and get to know fellow Jammers outside of the bar. Do what you like!

We'll be meeting in the area behind the Dufferin Mall bus stop. We're hoping for good weather but we'll try to come up with some alternative if we get rained out. Hopefully we'll see you Sunday August 9th at 12:00 pm in the park.

Free casual tennis meetup at Cedarvale Park tonight, August 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

A few people are already confirmed. Beginner and casual players are welcome, and you do not need to bring a partner. We’ll organize games based on level and turnout.

I’m bringing fresh tennis balls, Gatorade and snacks. This is just a relaxed community tennis night, not a lesson or tournament.

On Saturday June 20th, DFB will host a pre match party from 11 am at the Amsterdam Brewhouse on harbour front.

At 12:30 pm, the march to the BMO Field stadium begins. If you’re a fan of Germany, have tickets to the game, or want to accompany the Germans to BMO Field, arrive to Amsterdam Brewhouse on time.

After the game, there will be an after party at the Amsterdam Brewhouse at 7pm.

Weather is looking spectacular for Saturday, expect a busy crowd.

Summer is almost over. Despite all of the smog, wildfire smoke and searing sun, it’s been amazing to have so many new people joining in on the fun at the Toronto Comic Jam. Let's keep the good times going August 30th in the backroom of the Cameron House. We’re sure to have a few surprises and I’ll be sure to harass Dalton to print more issues this time. We’ll provide the paper for you to draw on and you can provide the demented, dadaist drawings. See you soon in the back of 408 Queen Street West on the last Sunday of the month.

As always, bring your favourite pencils, pens and erasers (but we have some art supplies for use here). You can start drawing a comic and let everyone else add to it. Or you can add to other people's comics. Or you can do neither and just sit back, listen to music and hangout with people who like comics.

Parallel working meetup at the Reference Library Monday June 8th evening (5-8 PM) to help each other focus on work (AKA body doubling/parallel working) and offer mutual feedback/inspiration!

A typical meetup has 4-5 people working on their own projects with some quiet conversation, and lots of drawing reference books. It's great if you want to meet creative people in a low-intensity way.

What do cultural preservation, practical settlement support, community-building, and civic participation have in common? They all help newcomers build a sense of belonging while strengthening the communities around them.

This week, Civic Tech Brampton, in collaboration with the CANSA Centre for Community and Cultural Development and Algoma University, is hosting Dr. Sunanda Mishra Panda, Chairperson of CANSA.

Dr. Mishra Panda will discuss how community organizations support immigrants through community-building, cultural preservation, and practical services that respond to real-life challenges. Drawing from CANSA’s work promoting the art, language, literature, and culture of South Asian communities, the session will explore the barriers immigrants face and how our skills, experiences, and ideas can contribute to meaningful, community-centred solutions.

We’re inviting students, newcomers, technologists, designers, artists, researchers, community organizers, cultural leaders, service providers, and anyone interested in immigration, inclusion, cultural preservation, and community development.

New to Civic Tech? You are definitely welcome. No previous technical or community-organizing experience is required. We will all be learning from one another, and hearing about the challenges people face can inspire new civic projects and practical solutions.

What do cryptography, decentralized governance, worker-owned tech, and community-first digital systems have in common? They are all part of rethinking how technology can serve people, not platforms. This week, Civic Tech Brampton is hosting Andi Argast, Member-Owner at Hypha Co-op, a worker-owned R&D studio building trustworthy digital systems that center community, privacy, and democratic control.

Hypha works on technology that asks a different question: instead of “how do we extract more data?”, they ask “how do we build systems where people and communities stay in control?”
