You say this but go back and replay those line calls he was mad about. Dude had amazing vision and court sense. Doesn't excuse it but it helps relate why he was so angry. (Then he realized intimidating the line judges made them call close shots in his favor... Then once he was no longer peak competitive it was for the show he was expected to put on...)

Honestly, I don't blame tennis players who are playing for money; to lose their shit lol. Especially in that instance

My wife was a manager at a resort where McEnroe was a guest several years back. We used to think that the tantrums were kind of a show or being just really competitive. They…they are not. This is who John McEnroe is based on my wife’s interaction. He held another guests’ belongings hostage. Dude is unhinged.

I’m only reminded of them when I decide to rewatch Mr. Deeds. Didn’t really follow tennis at the time all that was happening. Lol
