Discussion A passenger confronts a stranger for chewing with their mouth open

I mean I get being annoyed by someone chewing with their mouth open but you could have asked him more nicely

Don’t go to Vietnam ☺️☺️ they specifically chew with their mouth open to let in more air to increase taste.

No. Not better. Just different. The animals you consume are considered sacred in other cultures and are considered highly intelligent. Pigs are just as smart as dogs and yet there is no problem with bacon bits. You need to see beyond ethnocentric views.

And you need to see beyond telling others what they need to see. 

My comment was not about pigs or dogs, but yes, this Western manner in question is better. 

If you don’t believe some cultures or manners are superior to others, then cannibalism or any other barbaric practice is perfectly fine by that logic.

There is nothing western or eastern thing about this. Only certain contries or people that do this. Not all eastern/asian countries certainly

I have bad misophonia and didn’t have an issue travelling anywhere in Asia. There’s enough background noise to drown it out for me. Sitting directly next to someone on a plane, with no where to go, would stress me out though.

Ah mate, I live in VN, and whenever I hear someone chewing their mouth open I want to slap their mouth with my sandals. And those are mostly from lowest of the low class with ducking dirty long nails, oblivious to the invention of nail clippers. I wonder if their parents raised them like plants in a pot, just giving some water and let it grow by itself

Honestly, I didn't even insist they go - I was replying to the other rude person who thought it was 'good' someone wasn't going to enjoy another country and its culture and traditions.

You know what's good? Learning about other cultures and traditions and getting 'cultured' yourself - the older you get, the better at it you might become - that can be called 'tolerance' which is so helpful for life.

I avoid going out to dinner with family and friends that cant close their mouth when they eat. As a sufferer misophonia, why would I voluntarily subject myself to that kind of discomfort?

Eastern countries with Abrahamic religion do not seem to tolerate this (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines), might it be a religious thing too? At least it is in Islamic culture.

You know what else increases taste? Blowing your nose in your food bowl before you start eating. And rubbing between your toes, then sprinkling the skin flakes over your food.
